Almost two weeks since being unceremoniously fired by ESPN, former NFL safety Ryan Clark has continued to dominate the headlines. Clark, who was fired during a segment of the “NFL Live” show a fortnight ago, has not held back in his criticism of ESPN’s toxic work environment.
On Monday, Adam Schefter revealed that former NFL cornerback and Super Bowl champion Jason McCourty will become a contributor on the “Monday Night Countdown” show. McCourty will join the show alongside host Scott Van Pelt and analysts Marcus Spears and Jason Kelce.
NFL Community Divided over Ryan Clark’s ESPN Replacement
McCourty will make his debut on the show on September 14, before the game pitting the Denver Broncos against the Kansas City Chiefs.
NFL fans on X had mixed reactions to McCourty being hired by ESPN to take over the polarizing Clark’s job:
A user on X named ‘Float’ was enthusiastic about McCourty’s appointment and even had a huge prediction about his analysis. He wrote, “Called it the moment RC got fired. It’s a great addition. He’s charismatic and keeps it football. Should be just as good if not better than Ryan Clark,”
After news of his appointment broke, media personality Kyle Brandt lavished praise on McCourty’s personality. “There’s no one who’s easier to work with. Smart. Fun. Positive vibe. Love this,” Brandt posted.

ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel congratulated McCourty on his new appointment and said, “The dude Jason McCourty is the absolute best.”
One fan added, “Excellent choice. Ryan Clark will still be missed very much. Good luck to JC!”

However, not everyone was a fan of ESPN’s decision, as one user on X wrote, “He can’t replace Ryan Clark, idc what y’all say.”
McCourty’s appointment to the analyst’s role did not excite Donte Scott. He said, “Jason is cool but he just boring to me. Respectfully.”

One fan dismissed McCourty’s analysis when compared to Clark’s and wrote, “Not better than Ryan Clark. Can’t even compare!”
Another user named ‘Infinity Labs’ was critical of McCourty’s on-air personality. “Never felt he had enough personality on the air. Maybe I am wrong,” ‘Infinity Labs’ posted.
McCourty played for four different teams in his 13-year NFL career before retiring in 2022. After his retirement, he immediately joined the NFL Network as an analyst on the “Good Morning Football” show. He also called some games on “Thursday Night Football” radio broadcasts and provided color commentary for college football games on CBS.
Jason’s twin brother, Devin McCourty, works as an analyst on NBC’s ‘Football Night in America,’ which airs Sunday nights, while Jason will now be on ESPN’s Monday pre-game show.
