These days, he’s being shipped from team to team in the blink of an eye. But there was a time, not too long ago, when Russell Wilson was seen as the next big thing in the NFL. Coming in as a third-round pick in 2012, Wilson wasn’t supposed to scale the heights he eventually did in his career. But a lucky accident flipped the entire script of his career.
Now, over a decade later, he’s earned his place as one of the greatest players in the Seattle Seahawks franchise history. As the organization recognized his contributions and standing on their pyramid, the star quarterback had an immediate, heartfelt reaction to the honor bestowed upon him.

Even though he was taken in the third round, Wilson impressed the coaching staff enough that he was given the nod for the starting job in Seattle. He immediately took off, putting in a rookie season for the ages, putting in over 3,600 yards and 30 touchdowns.
His next year was even better, as his play, combined with the emergence of the Legion of Boom defense, paved the way for the Seahawks to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history. However, his run of dominance with the squad wasn’t over.
Seattle was right back in the big game the next year as well, albeit this time ending up with a loss. However, in three years, Wilson had already endeared himself to the fan base and cemented himself as a legitimate legend of the franchise.
Overall, he spent a decade with the franchise, taking them to the playoffs on eight separate occasions. He was individually brilliant as well, earning nine Pro Bowl selections while holding virtually every record in the franchise’s history by the time his run was over.
On their 50th anniversary as a franchise, the Seahawks made a decision to announce the 50 greatest players in the organization’s history. It was inevitable that Wilson would end up on the list. When his time eventually came, Seattle put together a heartwarming video package along with the announcement.
In the Instagram post, the team wrote, “Franchise record holder in touchdown passes, passing yards, and passer rating. Super Bowl XLVIII Champion. Welcome to the Top 50, Russell Wilson.”

Wilson, now three years and two franchises removed from the Seahawks, still had love for the team and the city. Responding in kind, he wrote, “Grateful! FOREVER MEMORIES & LOVE.💙💚 #3 @seahawks”
Even after so much time, the bond between the franchise and the player is clearly apparent. But both have moved on to different phases. As Seattle tries to make it back to the playoffs with Sam Darnold, Wilson is getting set as QB1 for the New York Giants, as they try to find stability as well.

I feel that Russell Wilson was the best thing that happened to the Seattle Sea Hawks. He took them to the playoffs more than once. I was proud to be a Sea Hawks fan. Went so far as to buy a beanie, shirt and shoes and wore them proudly as I watched all of their games. It’s about time they gavehim the recognition and thanks he deserves. Love you Russell Wilson!!
