‘Russell Wilson Nightmare Is Over’ — Giants Fans Celebrate After Jaxson Dart Becomes QB1 for Week 4

Jaxson Dart is replacing Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants, and fans are rejoicing.

As the saying goes, the heart wants what the heart wants, and New York Giants fans desperately wanted Jaxson Dart to replace Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback.

They got their wish today when Giants head coach Brian Dabol announced that Dart would start for the Giants in their Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers at Met Life Stadium on Sunday.

How Are Giants Fans Responding to Dart’s Ascendance?

Fans have clamored for him since Dart started throwing the ball in training camp.

Some of it has to do with his confident demeanor, but even more of it has to do with his play in the preseason.

Adam Schefter posted, “A QB change: Giants are planning to start rookie Jaxson Dart on Sunday vs. the Chargers, sources told ESPN.”

Now that they’ve had their wish granted, fans are practically rejoicing over the switch. Barstool New York kicked off the celebration, posting, “NO MORE RUSSELL WILSON #LetsRide

One fan simply posted, “Russell Wilson” with a cartoon wearing a shirt saying, “It’s over and that’s Alright!”

Another fan went the cliche route, posting, “FINALLY, OUR LONG NATIONAL RUSSELL WILSON NIGHTMARE IS OVER.”

One fan pointed out, “They weren’t winning any games with Russ, smart to see what you have in Dart.”

One fan is feeling optimistic, posting, “start of something special.”

Another fan flipped the script on what people used to say about Wilson, posting, “Let Dart cook!”

Now that the change has been made, Daboll is not committed to seeing how Dart works out. The Giants already drafted Abdul Carter in the first round. They traded their second-round (34th overall), third-round (99th overall), and 2026 third-round pick to the Houston Texans to get back into the first round and draft Dart 25th overall.

At the time, it was seen as a developmental pick.

“He’s in a really good spot where he can come in and he can sit behind a couple of veteran quarterbacks and learn and doesn’t have to be thrown out there right away,” Giants general manager Joe Schoen told ESPN. “I think from a developmental standpoint and the ability to grow, I think it’s a perfect situation for a young quarterback.”

Jaxson Dart’s education starts in earnest this week. He’s no longer a developmental player; he’s being asked to take over for an offense that only showed life against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2. The Cowboys have been torched 1,193 total yards in just three games, ranking them 30th in the NFL.

The Giants’ offense is ranked 12th in total yards with 1,018, but more than half came against Dallas, and they still lost 40-37.

While there might be hopes that Dart can become a franchise-type quarterback, the reality is that the Giants will be seeing what they have in him a little earlier than they might have hoped.

His play in the preseason was exciting and dynamic, but he’s being thrown into the deep end of the pool against a Chargers defense that has given up just 830 yards, ranking eighth in the NFL.

Giants fans got what they wanted; now they’ll see if it works out.
