Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs emerged as a key contributor to the team’s offense last season. Yet through the first four weeks of the regular season in 2024, Doubs grew frustrated with his role in Green Bay.
Doubs missed multiple practices due to his frustration and was eventually internally suspended for Week 5 by Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. Here’s the latest on Doubs’ status ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.
Romeo Doubs Update Week 6
After missing last week due to a one-game suspension, LaFleur offered an update on Doubs’ standing with the team on Monday.
“What’s done is done,” LaFleur said regarding the situation with Doubs during his press conference on Monday, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “We’re moving forward. I expect us collectively as a team to continue to move that way.”
While LaFleur clearly isn’t ready to simply ignore what Doubs did last week, he understands that it’ll take time to repair the relationship, stating that it’ll be a “one day at a time” process.
“The one thing I’ll say about it is it’s a pretty isolated incident,” LaFleur continued. “This has not happened with him before, and I don’t expect it to happen moving forward.”
Luckily for Doubs, LaFleur appears ready to give him another shot in Green Bay. While Doubs is frustrated with his role in 2024, he still remains the second-most productive WR on the Packers this season.
Doubs currently ranks second among Green Bay’s WRs with 169 receiving yards. While he has yet to haul in a receiving touchdown this season, Doubs still plays a notable role for the Packers.
Adam Schefter of ESPN offered more insight into Doubs’ situation on Monday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show.”
"The Romeo Doubs situation is really interesting for a few reasons..
He was there Wednesday but he didn't show up on Thursday or Friday..
He decided to stay away for a couple days & I don't know if he was particular thrilled about the amount of passes that went his way"… pic.twitter.com/nWidQbWoMr

Fantasy Implications of Doubs’ Return
One confusing aspect of Doubs’ frustration with his role in the offense is the two-game absence of starting quarterback Jordan Love. In Love’s return to action in Week 4, Doubs was targeted eight times by Love, hauling in four receptions for 39 yards.
While Love continues to work his way back from a knee injury, his connection with Doubs from last season should be able to shine once again in 2024. If Doubs returns in Week 6, it would likely be a blow to the fantasy stock of Bo Melton, whom some managers added off of waivers last week.
Malik Heath and Melton were the biggest beneficiaries of Doubs’ suspension in Week 5, as Heath ran 21 routes and Melton ran 13 routes, according to TruMedia.
Before Week 5, Heath had six routes run this season, while Melton had 10 routes run in 2024. Regardless of the uptick in snaps, neither player impressed last week.
Doubs might not be the only WR returning to action for the Packers in Week 6. While his status is uncertain, Christian Watson could return from his ankle injury this week against the Cardinals as well.
Heading into Week 6, Dontayvion Wicks is the second-highest-scoring WR in fantasy football for the Packers in 2024, yet he’s essentially had just one good game.
Outside of his 24.8-point performance in full-PPR scoring leagues in Week 4, Wicks has scored just 15.6 points across Green Bay’s other four games.
Therefore, it’s difficult to find much fantasy football clarity in Green Bay’s WR room. While Jayden Reed is locked in as a must-start player on your fantasy football team each week, the rest of the team’s WR group feels like a risky play right now.
