Robert Tonyan Dynasty Profile: Fantasy Outlook, Value, Projections, and Rankings

Robert Tonyan Dynasty Profile: Fantasy Outlook, Value, Projections, and Rankings

As we inch toward the new season, the ever-changing NFL landscape has player fantasy values constantly on the move. Whether you’re used to the dynasty platform or are still learning the dynasty rules, let’s dive into the latest dynasty value of Robert Tonyan.

Robert Tonyan’s Dynasty Outlook and Value

For three years, Tonyan has been the same guy. He runs around 20 routes per game and commands about a 12% target share.

In four of his five NFL seasons, Tonyan’s averaged no higher than 6.6 fantasy points per game. By all accounts, his name shouldn’t even be mentioned in fantasy circles.

Why is he? In 2020, Tonyan scored 11 touchdowns on 52 receptions. That is the only reason. If not for an anomalous scoring year in a season where Aaron Rodgers had an outlier 9.1% TD rate himself, Tonyan would be an afterthought.

Robert Tonyan’s Fantasy Ranking

Tonyan is only 29 years old and should have several years left as an NFL player. But he will continue his career with the Chicago Bears after signing with the team in free agency on a one-year deal. Justin Fields will be his quarterback, and Tonyan will back up starting TE Cole Kmet.

While I am bullish on Fields’ future, he will never be half the passer Rodgers was. Fields is certainly not about to turn Tonyan into anyone who needs to be on fantasy rosters.

We currently have Tonyan at TE31 (No. 247 overall) in our dynasty Superflex rankings. To be candid, that feels high. I’m not sure if there’s any scenario that would lead me to select Tonyan in dynasty startup drafts.
