Josh Hokit’s Controversial Comment on Michelle Obama Draws Reactions

Hokit came up big at the White House by defeating 41-year-old Derrick Lewis via technical knockout. The veteran couldn’t keep up with the 28-year-old and suffered what could be one of, if not the last, defeats of his career.

While the TKO went viral, Hokit’s post-fight interview polarized Americans, including the NFL community. During his interview with Joe Rogan, the fighter called the former First Lady “a man.”

“Michelle Obama is a man!” he said. “Am I right, America?” The interview ended there, and the conversation continued online.

“Josh Hokit won the biggest fight of his career at the White House and decides to finish his interview by calling Michelle Obama a Man,” Robert Griffin III wrote on X. “What a disgrace. It takes a really small man to use his biggest moment to attack a woman by calling her a man. Especially with the history behind calling black women men.”

“Josh Hokit, I hope you step on a rusty nail dipped in paint thinner, acid, rat poison, antifreeze, gasoline, etc.,” former cornerback Asante Samuel said while bashing him.

Not everyone opposed the claim, however, as many fans were amused by the take, including former defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko. “Hokit… Dawg,” he posted.

The polarizing nature of the comment, nonetheless, raised many eyebrows across the sports landscape.

“Bussin’ With The Boys” co-host Will Compton posted his reaction from the moment, and their podcast account shared this video:

“Oh that was nice,” The Atlantic’s Jemele Hill wrote while taking a dig at Hokit’s comments. “Josh Hokit ended his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan by calling Michelle Obama a man. Nothing says let’s celebrate America quite like that. Truly special.”

Debates and backlash online largely pass between the two sides of the political aisle. The consequences of Hokit’s comment are still limited to nothing more than online criticism, and the fighter is unlikely to face anything more at this stage.

He also called out Alex Pereira in his post-fight interview, and it remains to be seen whether his wish gets granted.
