March Madness is always one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year in American sports. It’s when college basketball narrows down into an electrifying playoff tournament that delivers epic moments year after year.
The 2025 edition of March Madness brought two powerhouse programs head-to-head: Florida vs. Houston — both No. 1 seeds — setting the stage for a highly anticipated championship matchup. The Gators came out on top with a nail-biting 65–63 win, rallying back after trailing by 12 points during the game.
However, what really drew attention was the final play. Cougars guard Emanuel Sharp had a chance to attempt a game-winning 3-pointer, but under tight defense, he let the ball hit the floor, resulting in a turnover that sealed the win for Florida. The moment sparked a wave of reactions online, including one from former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Robert Griffin III Couldn’t Believe Houston’s Final Play
With just under nine seconds left on the clock, Florida led 65–63, and Houston had one final possession. The ball made its way to Sharp, who quickly set himself to take the shot that could bring glory to his university. Under pressure, he hesitated — going for a dribble after already beginning his shooting motion. That’s when it all slipped away.
The turnover ended Houston’s hopes and sealed Florida’s championship win, their first since 2007. Following the game, Griffin took to social media, visibly frustrated with the way the game ended.
“HOW THE HECK DO YOU LOSE THE NATIONAL TITLE WITHOUT EVEN SHOOTING THE BALL?$?$?! HEARTBREAKING.”
Griffin’s reaction was understandable. After all, despite having nine seconds on the clock, Houston didn’t even attempt a shot, leaving fans with a bitter taste and the lingering thought of what could have been.
One user came to Sharp’s defense, arguing that his decision wasn’t the real issue and that the blame should fall on his teammates for not reacting quickly enough to help.
“He had a shot, then he didn’t. Florida defender came from out of vision, I think he was right to safely get rid of the ball with 4 full seconds left. Better odds of getting a different shot, even a 2, than making that shot once the defender got there.
“This is on his teammates for not recognizing the situation faster to get to the ball. They were staring right at it.”
The player responsible for the game-sealing defensive stop was Florida star Walter Clayton Jr. After going scoreless in the first half, Clayton bounced back in the second, leading the Gators’ comeback and delivering the decisive turnover that secured the national title.
The 2025 edition of March Madness came to a dramatic close, capping off what Forbes’ DJ Siddiqi called one of the greatest Final Fours in history. Even with fewer upsets in the late stages and the “super teams” asserting their dominance, this year’s tournament was a resounding success — one that sets a strong precedent for the years to come.
