Former NFL Star Robert Griffin III Offers Solution to Saints’ Glaring Hole at QB After Derek Carr’s Shocking Setback

News recently broke that New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr could potentially miss the 2025 NFL season with a shoulder injury. If Carr opts for surgery, New Orleans will be without their starting quarterback in 2025 after floundering in his absence last season.

Taking to social media, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III has highlighted a potential solution for the NFC South outfit.

Derek Carr Suffers a Shoulder Injury, Could Miss the 2025 Season

Carr’s latest injury revelation is the last thing the Saints needed as they prepare for the start of their offseason training schedule. Carr missed seven games, with two separate injuries, in 2024, and the team lost all of them. Rookie Spencer Rattler and second-year player Jake Haener both had opportunities to impress but largely failed.

While not the most highly thought of quarterback in the NFL, Carr’s efficiency is often overlooked. Carr was a top-10 quarterback in several metrics in 2024, including completion percentage, touchdown percentage, and sack rate.

The team would be loathe to trust either of their backups with an entire season, meaning that at least one addition will need to be made.

Robert Griffin III Believes The Saints Should Draft Shedeur Sanders

Upon hearing the news about Carr, Griffin publicly stated his belief that the Saints should look to take Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft. Sanders’ future has long been the subject of disagreement among analysts. Griffin, though, believes that the team’s need at the position, and their impressive collection of skill players, make it a good fit.

“Derek Carr may be out for the season with a shoulder injury. The New Orleans Saints should draft Shedeur Sanders. Give him Chris Olave, Brandin Cooks, Shaheed, Kamara, an improved O-Line and a veteran defense that is ready to win. The Saints need a spark. Shedeur is that spark.”

While some believe that Sanders was overvalued with early projections of a top-two pick, landing with New Orleans at Pick 9 would be a solid value. Sanders has some question marks about his play style and whether he has the athletic ability to make it work at the next level.

But the player also has the potential to be a franchise-altering acquisition if things work out. While not elite in terms of power, Sanders’ arm talent is clear to see, while his understanding of defenses is invaluable. With the ninth pick, New Orleans would be getting all of the potential upside without having to pass on a blue-chip prospect.
