The rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens has produced some of the most intense matchups in NFL history — fueled by elite defenses, hard-hitting clashes, and no shortage of trash talk. So when a former Ravens legend publicly praises a Steelers icon, it’s bound to get attention. And that’s precisely what Terrell Suggs did on a recent episode of the “New Rory and Mal” podcast.
Aaron Rodgers Has the Hype, Ben Roethlisberger Has the Rings — And Terrell Suggs Isn’t Letting It Slide
While much of the football world continues to fixate on Aaron Rodgers’ uncertain future in free agency, Suggs used the moment to highlight what he sees as a serious oversight in how quarterbacks are remembered.
“I would say [Ben] Roethlisberger is underrated,” Suggs said when asked about his overrated and underrated quarterbacks. “He got more rings than [Aaron] Rodgers. He got more rings than [Drew] Brees. He got like more rings than [Dan] Marino. He’s got as many as Peyton and Eli [Manning]. So I would say Roethlisberger, he’s probably the most underrated.”

Suggs’ comments come as Rodgers remains unsigned deep into the offseason, continuing a saga that’s drawn headlines but few answers. Despite being a four-time MVP and one of the most efficient quarterbacks in NFL history, Rodgers has just one Super Bowl ring — a stat line that Suggs believes should draw more scrutiny.
The comparison is striking. While Rodgers is often placed in the upper echelon of all-time greats, Roethlisberger — a two-time Super Bowl champion — is rarely brought up in those conversations. Yet Suggs, who spent 16 years battling Roethlisberger twice a season, believes the accolades and consistency speak for themselves.
“He’s got as many [rings] as Peyton and Eli,” Suggs said. “And more than Brees, more than Rodgers, more than Marino.”
It’s a rare show of respect from a longtime rival, and it speaks to just how impactful Roethlisberger was in the AFC North. Suggs and the Ravens defense tried everything to stop him over the years, and while their matchups were often slugfests, Roethlisberger’s durability, clutch performances, and ability to extend plays left a lasting impression.
The comments also reflect a growing sentiment that Rodgers’ individual brilliance has sometimes overshadowed team results, especially as his free agency drama lingers with no clear landing spot in sight. Suggs didn’t outright dismiss Rodgers’ talent, but the implication was clear: If we’re going to obsess over legacy, Super Bowl wins need to matter.
Roethlisberger retired in 2022 with 165 career wins, 418 touchdowns over 64,000 passing yards, and a 13-10 playoff record. And to hear Suggs tell it, Big Ben’s name belongs in the same breath — if not above — some of the biggest quarterback legends of his generation.
For a guy who spent over a decade trying to sack him, that’s not a compliment thrown around lightly.
