It’s been quite a week for Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. Last Sunday night, he brought the team back from a deficit with a somersaulting touchdown to give his team a 1-point lead that they eventually finished. Wednesday, the 24-year-old quarterback admitted his hip was sore from the flip over the goal line. On Thursday, he missed practice, and rumors began swirling.
Will Lamar Jackson play Sunday vs. the Lions?
Yes, we’ll see Jackson on the field Sunday against the Detroit Lions. One day after reporting that his goal-line flip made his hip a little uncomfortable, the former league MVP missed Thursday’s practice.
Fortunately for Jackson and the Ravens, his hip was not the reason for his missed session. A stomach bug kept him from practice on Thursday, but it was not COVID-related. He returned to practice in full on Friday.
Jackson has already had COVID twice, and his vaccination status became quite a talking point during training camp. Luckily, the season started, and we had football to talk about instead. Nevertheless, that doesn’t change the fact that at any time, if the quarterback remains unvaccinated, he could be gone from the team for 10 days. The Ravens can hardly survive a game without him, given the horrible injury luck they’ve seen so far.
Ravens’ passing attack should see efficient day against Detroit
With Jeffrey Okudah and Ifeatu Melifonwu both on Injured Reserve, the Lions CB room is as bare as an apartment on moving day. The Ravens’ passing attack is still a work in progress. Despite that, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has performed well so far in 2021.
Sammy Watkins has been a weapon as well. Both receivers missed time during training camp and the preseason. This made their relationship with Jackson an unfinished project. However, Baltimore is already more dangerous on the outside than they’ve been in previous seasons.
Jackson’s appearance as a passer isn’t always appetizing to the common fan, but his results are unbelievably good, considering the degree of difficulty that results from his backyard style.
Once rookie receiver Rashod Bateman returns, we could see the most efficient passing attack in Jackson’s career. That’s terrifying because, in his MVP season, they were the best passing attack in the league on a per-play basis.
