The Green Bay Packers made headlines by releasing two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. He was recently allowed to seek a trade, but after failing to find a deal, the Packers chose to move on.
The move drew plenty of reactions from fans and players, including one Pro Bowl defensive back from the Baltimore Ravens.
Packers’ Decision on Jaire Alexander Gets Response From Marlon Humphrey
Alexander was a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and spent his entire seven-year career with the Packers. He played in 13 games with 11 starts as a rookie, recording 66 tackles, 11 pass breakups and one interception.
His next two seasons were strong, totaling 109 tackles, 30 PBUs and three picks across those years. Alexander was named a second-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl in 2020, although his 2019 stats were arguably better.
Green Bay picked up his fifth-year option heading into the 2021 season, but a shoulder injury limited him to just four regular-season games. He signed a four-year, $84 million extension the following offseason and bounced back with another Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro selection in 2022.
Injuries and a team-issued suspension limited Alexander to just 14 games over the last two seasons. He was suspended one game in 2023 after participating in the coin toss despite not being named a captain for the Packers’ Week 16 game against the Carolina Panthers.
Alexander posted 43 tackles, 12 PBUs and two interceptions over those two seasons and is now searching for a new NFL home. His release sparked buzz around the league, with Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey chiming in with a simple one-word reaction.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the Packers were releasing Alexander, and Humphrey responded to the tweet with, “Wow.”

The four-time Pro Bowler’s post has led some fans to speculate the Ravens might try to bring Alexander in. He played at Louisville with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, making Baltimore a natural potential fit.
What Could Hold Up Alexander Signing With Ravens, Other Potential Suitors?
Teams could be hesitant to sign Alexander because of his recent injury history. A back injury sidelined him for three games in 2023, followed by a midseason shoulder issue that kept him out of six more.
Last season, an early quad injury forced him to miss two games, and his year ended with a lingering PCL injury that needed surgery.
Alexander is only 28, but the list of injuries continues to grow each season. The Ravens would make sense as a landing spot given the Jackson connection, but any team interested will want a full medical evaluation first.
Another potential roadblock could be his contract expectations. Alexander was the NFL’s fifth-highest-paid cornerback at $21 million per year. After two injury-shortened seasons, he’s unlikely to command that type of deal again.
He’s still a talented corner, but the price has to be right for whichever team decides to take the chance.
