Ravens HC John Harbaugh’s Blunt Message Raises Concerns About Lamar Jackson’s Injury

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh’s recent comments about young quarterback Lamar Jackson are raising concern about his return.

In the Baltimore Ravens’ Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson exited the game in the third quarter, leaving many fans wondering what had happened to the two-time MVP.

It was later revealed that Jackson had suffered a hamstring injury, and while it didn’t seem severe at first, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh’s recent comments on his quarterback are starting to raise concerns.

John Harbaugh’s Comments Spark Worry About Ravens QB Lamar Jackson’s Health

Ravens fans held their breath when Jackson exited in the third quarter of the Ravens’ loss to the Chiefs. On Monday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Jackson suffered a hamstring injury, and the team was expected to conduct further testing to determine the severity.

There wasn’t much concern about Jackson’s status after the game or following Rapoport’s report, but that changed after Harbaugh’s comments in his Monday press conference.

Harbaugh explained that the Ravens didn’t remove Jackson from the game as a precaution, as many believed, since they were already down big to the Chiefs, but because the injury made it necessary.

“There was no way he was going to go back in the game,” Harbaugh said. “The injury precluded it. During the game, you’re playing the next series as the coach, but there was no way he could go back in the game. I know Lamar. I know the way I know Lamar, if he could’ve gone back in the game, he would’ve gone back in the game.”

Harbaugh’s comments suggest the injury may be more serious than most initially believed. After Jackson left the game, he didn’t appear to be in significant pain or unable to walk, which led many to think the Ravens simply chose to sit him since they were already losing to the Chiefs.

However, with Harbaugh noting that his quarterback would not have returned even if the Ravens had made it close in the fourth quarter, it’s becoming clear that Jackson’s injury is a legitimate concern.

Jackson is currently listed as questionable for the Ravens’ Week 5 matchup with the Houston Texans on October 5, 2025. Baltimore is off to a 1-3 start to the season and desperately needs a win over the Texans, so Jackson’s status will be something to monitor as the week goes on.

If Jackson can’t play, the Ravens will turn to backup Cooper Rush, who relieved him in the Chiefs game. It feels like Baltimore’s season is starting to slip away, and with Jackson’s status in doubt, things may only get worse for the team.
