Randy Moss stood at the grand opening of his Miami restaurant, looking healthy and ready to talk business. The Hall of Fame receiver had delayed this moment for months, waiting until he could physically be there to celebrate. With his cancer battle behind him, Moss was ready to share his vision for bringing fried chicken to South Florida.
How Did Randy Moss’s Health Battle Delay His Restaurant Opening?
Former NFL wide receiver Moss, regarded as one of the best, if not the best, wide receivers in NFL history, has recently entered into a new business venture. He invested in Crisppi’s, a fast-food restaurant in Miami that focuses on fried chicken.
Moss recently attended the grand opening of a new location in Miami on Biscayne Boulevard. There, he not only spoke about the restaurant’s upcoming partnership with the Miami Dolphins but also gave an update on his health.
At the restaurant location, Moss explained that his health battle forced them to postpone the grand opening. The timing had to be right for him to make his public appearance.
“We could push the grand opening back a few months until I was able to physically come and show my face,” Moss said. “Now that I’m here, my health is great, and I thank everybody for the support.”
The delay proved worthwhile as Moss personally connected with the community he’s called home for decades. His presence at the opening showed his commitment to the venture and recovery.
“I thought that, being a resident of Florida for almost 25 years, I’ve met some great people and I’ve seen some great things down in the south,” Moss said. “This is the reason I wanted to bring chicken, our product down to South Florida. We’ve been getting some great reviews.”
The positive reception has given Moss the confidence to expand his vision beyond just serving great food. His partnership with a major local sports franchise shows just how serious he is about making Crisppi’s a community staple.
What Makes Crisppi’s Partnership With the Dolphins Special?
The restaurant is “known for its chicken and waffles, specializing in fresh, never frozen, tenders seasoned on-site and waffles made to order from the owner’s special recipe.”
Beyond the food, Moss revealed that Crisppi’s has secured a new five-year partnership with the Dolphins. The team recognized the restaurant’s potential impact on the local community.
“The Miami Dolphins (have) seen something,” Moss said. “They’ve seen our vision of us being able to give something to the community, something tasteful.”
This partnership represents more than just a business deal. For Moss, it’s about giving back to the South Florida community that has been his home for nearly 25 years.
The restaurant opening comes after a challenging period for Moss. In late 2024, he announced that he had undergone surgery months earlier after being diagnosed with bile duct cancer. He underwent a Whipple procedure, also known as pancreaticoduodenectomy, to remove the cancerous mass.
Moss indicated in his Instagram Live video update that he had spent nearly a week in the hospital after the surgery, but that he made it through while also expressing thanks to his well-wishers.
“Your boy is a cancer survivor,” Moss said in the Instagram video. “Some trying times of course. But you know, we made it through and for that, I thank you all.”
During his NFL career, Moss led the NFL in touchdown receptions five times and earned six Pro Bowl nominations. He racked up 15,292 receiving yards and 157 touchdowns, and was also inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
