‘Time To Be Aggressive’ — Ex-NFL QB Calls for Rams to Pursue Blockbuster Trade for A.J. Brown or George Pickens

One analyst suggests that the Rams should explore trade possibilities for A.J. Brown or George Pickens to boost their Super Bowl window.

The Los Angeles Rams sent shockwaves across the NFL world last evening when they selected Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. Such a surprising move naturally sparked various responses, opinions, and so on. But what should the Rams do next?

Dan Orlovsky Wants the Rams To Be Aggressive After Drafting Ty Simpson

Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky offered the next steps for the Rams to increase their chances of winning the Super Bowl with Matthew Stafford. He urged the Rams to pursue a trade for either Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown or Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens.

As Orlovsky begins noting at the 8:20 mark of the video on ESPN’s “Get Up”: “As much as I am a fan of this pick [Simpson], I am of the belief that now it’s the time to be aggressive if you’re the Rams. Now, it’s time to say, ‘Philadelphia, where are you with A.J. Brown and the New England Patriots?’ ‘Hey, Dallas Cowboys, where are you with George Pickens?'”

“Now, it’s time if I’m the Rams, to take something pick-wise in the future, and you go to Matthew Stafford and say, ‘Hey, we are going to get you another weapon. We are going to go get you a difference-maker,'” Orlovsky added.

Though Brown will turn 29 in June, he has shown no signs of slowing down. His 1,003 receiving yards last season secured the sixth 1,000-yard season of his seven-year career as the first Eagle ever to tally four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

Similar to Brown, Pickens has had a bumpier start to his four-year career, the first three spent in Pittsburgh. At just 24 years old, he was traded to Dallas ahead of the 2025 season before tallying career highs in receptions (93), yards (1,429), and touchdowns (9).

Pickens’ career year in 2025 netted him the third-highest PFSN NFL WR Impact Score amongst NFL receivers, posting an 88.4 for his efforts. It also placed him 29th amongst all NFL players regardless of position. Brown, meanwhile, found himself 21st amongst his fellow receivers with an 80.9 impact score.

Orlovsky’s mention of the NFC East wideouts is hardly random. The possibility of Brown’s movement has been trending for months; yesterday’s selection of USC receiver Makai Lemon only amplified the likelihood of Brown’s separation from the Eagles. Pickens is playing on an expiring contract that, as we noted with his production, is likely expected to warrant a pay raise. Even so, his future in Dallas remains uncertain.

Los Angeles entered the 2026 NFL Draft with a need at receiver that many speculated would be addressed with said first-round pick, so the move for an established receiver is digestible. It will certainly be interesting to see what the Rams do when they’re on the clock with the 61st overall pick tonight, should they even make it there.
