Rams Predicted To Select ‘Dual-Threat Playmaking Wizard’ in 2026 NFL Draft As Matthew Stafford’s Successor

The Los Angeles Rams are humming with quarterback Matthew Stafford. However, could a new QB option in the NFL Draft be on the table?

The Los Angeles Rams are humming with quarterback Matthew Stafford. The Rams are ranked 5th in total yards with 1,091, and Stafford has completed 66.3% of his passes for 739 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s built a fast rapport with Davante Adams while feeding his de facto No. 1 receiver, Puka Nacua, 29 receptions for 333 yards.

However, Stafford is 37 years old, and while the Rams have him on a two-year, $84 million contract, he’s not going to be under center forever. It’s an open secret that the Rams and Stafford will reevaluate their relationship after the season. That being the case, they know they must prepare for life after Stafford.

Who Are the Rams Going to Draft to Replace Stafford?

The 2026 NFL draft class is considered one of the deepest ones in recent memory, and the Rams will be sitting on two picks in the first round thanks to a trade they made with the Atlanta Falcons. PFSN’s Owain Jones projects the Rams will use their first pick on Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, 11th overall.

Then, just a bit further down the round, Jones projects the Rams will draft South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers 23rd overall.

Jones writes, “LaNorris Sellers’ creativity and playmaking ability are worth a top-50 pick alone, but the South Carolina quarterback is still remarkably raw and is working to enhance his accuracy and pocket presence.

“However, at 6’3″ and 204 pounds, the Gamecocks’ dual-threat playmaking wizard is an elite athlete with a natural ability to conjure explosive plays and possesses an abundance of tools and traits that await refinement.”

What Would be the Perfect Scenario for Sellers and the Rams?

If this pairing were to happen, the ideal scenario would be Stafford returning after the Rams made a deep playoff run. Sellers is talented, but he’s going to need seasoning and tutoring at the pro level. Having Sellers learn from Stafford would allow him to work on fundamental things at the pro level that you will not get in college.

He’ll need to learn how to layer his throws, work on his footwork, understand how to read defenses at the line of scrimmage, pick up on blitzes, and simulate pressure.

He would also work with Sean McVay, which would elevate his game by giving him access to one of the best teachers in football.

The Rams know they will need to replace Stafford sooner rather than later, so they’d have to be thrilled if Sellers landed in their laps.
