The 2026 offseason has already been a crazy one, but it just got to a whole different level. Before free agency started, the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders agreed to a trade to send Maxx Crosby to Baltimore. Crosby was the top available trade target, and he is one of the league’s best defensive players.
The Crosby trade was a major move for the Ravens and elevated their Super Bowl hopes, but in a twist of fate, they have backed out of the deal.
Ravens Pull Out of Maxx Crosby Trade
Originally, the Ravens sent a 2026 and 2027 1st-round pick to the Raiders for Crosby. This was an excellent move for both sides, but in the end, the deal fell through.

At first, there was much speculation about why the Ravens backed out, but per Dianna Russini, it seems the star pass rusher failed his physical.
With the deal off the table and the Crosby trade not happening, the impact may be greater than it would have been if the trade had gone through.
Maxx Crosby did not pass his physical today, per sources.

For the Raiders, trading Crosby was the first step in starting the rebuild under newly hired HC Klint Kubiak. Selecting QB Fernando Mendoza with the #1 pick is a near-guarantee, but having the Ravens’ first-round pick (14) is an excellent asset to keep building the young team. Also, adding a 2027 first-round pick, which is considered an excellent draft class, was a major hit.
On the Ravens’ side, it makes sense why they would be worried about Crosby’s health if he failed the physical, but he was still one of the best defensive players in the NFL. Per PFSN’s EDGE Impact Ranking, Crosby was ranked 2nd last season.
Backing out of this deal may have some major ramifications. Now, Crosby’s money is not on the Ravens’ books. EDGE remains a major need, and since top free agent Trey Hendrickson is still available, the Ravens could target him.
Also, teams around the league may be back in the race for Crosby, which could reverse other trades or signings. With it being the legal tampering period, no free agent deals have been made official.
Looking at what has happened so far this offseason, this moment is by far the most shocking.
