Should I Draft Raheem Mostert? Dolphins RB’s Fantasy Outlook in 2023

Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert is part of a committee. Is the potential of grabbing a featured role enough to justify selecting him at his ADP?

Raheem Mostert is 31 years old, but with under 600 career touches, it stands to reason that his age curve could be a bit different than the norm at the position. This Miami Dolphins backfield is crowded, though the offensive potential of this squad makes any piece of it of interest to fantasy football managers.

    Raheem Mostert’s Fantasy Outlook

The Dolphins poked around during the Dalvin Cook sweepstakes, but as things stand right now, this is a backfield committee made up of Mostert, Jeff Wilson, and rookie De’Von Achane.

Both veterans have health question marks, while Achane’s spot on this depth chart has become less clear based on his preseason usage. The RB position as a whole figures to put up numbers in this potent offense, but the viability of any singular back is a giant question mark.

The ground game has potential for the Fins, but this team will go as far as the passing attack can take them. Tua Tagovailoa leads an offense centered around the game-breaking talents of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Beyond that dynamic duo, this Miami offense lacks dependable depth at pass catcher. Cedrick Wilson, Robbie Chosen, and Braxton Berrios are the next-best WR options, while Durham Smythe is penciled in as a starting TE with Mike Gesicki now in New England.

Is Mostert a Good Fantasy Pick?

The fact that you have the potential to land a starting running back in an elite offense makes him well worth a selection at this price point. My confidence level in him (or anyone) running away with this role is low, but at this cost, the sheer potential to do so is worth a look.

In fact, I don’t think it’s crazy to take two bites at the apple. Due to the price tag on all three of these backs, you can take a flier on two of them and give yourself the opportunity to build overall roster depth.

There’s obvious risk that comes with this, but again, the level of investment is low enough that even a miss on both picks won’t sink your season.
