With the New England Patriots opening training camp this week, the offseason controversy surrounding Mike Vrabel and NFL insider Dianna Russini has slowly started to fade.
That didn’t stop Boston radio hosts Adam Jones and Rich Keefe from revisiting the topic, as they speculated whether Russini may still be hoping for a long-term future with the Patriots head coach.

Speaking on WEEI’s “Jones & Keefe,” Jones questioned whether Russini could eventually decide to distance herself from Vrabel if she no longer believed there was a future between them.
“Well, and at what point, too, is she like, is the door still open for me to be together with Mike Vrabel long-term?” Jones said.
His co-host, Keefe, meanwhile, suggested emotions could continue to influence the situation. “I’m not really, you know, people are — the heart wants what the heart wants.”
Jones then said: “Like, right now, is she probably doing what is best for her and Mike?” while putting forward a hypothetical scenario, adding: “Yeah. If it’s clear they’re never going to be together long-term, will she talk and turn her back on Mike? Maybe.”

At the moment, Russini has gone completely quiet in the media while Vrabel and the Patriots have shifted their attention to the 2026 season, with training camp officially underway in Foxborough.
Ahead of his second year as Patriots head coach, Vrabel’s opening media session focused almost entirely on football, as he answered questions about roster decisions, newly signed second-round pick Gabe Jacas, Christian Gonzalez’s future, and the possibility of DeAndre Hopkins joining the coaching staff.

Before taking questions, the Patriots coach also participated in the team’s annual “Pawtriots” program, holding a rescue puppy at the podium as part of the organization’s pet adoption initiative.
Despite the offseason speculation surrounding Vrabel and Russini, reporters did not ask the Patriots coach about his personal life during his opening training camp media availability.
While the focus in New England is now firmly on football, the Vrabel-Russini saga is likely to resurface from time to time throughout the season.
Meanwhile, The Athletic has yet to name a replacement for Russini’s NFL insider role following her April resignation. Former ESPN insider Tom Pelissero has emerged as a widely discussed candidate in the NFL world for the position, although the outlet has not announced any appointment.
