Sports Figures Call for Aggressive Action Against Hall of Fame Voters Who Blocked Bill Belichick

Belichick spent close to half a century building the most prestigious coaching resume in NFL history. His countless honors, accolades, and records speak for themselves in conversations about the greatest coach the sport has ever seen.

Prominent figures in the sports scene naturally raised their voices in discontent.

“If you didn’t vote for Bill Belichick, you should be stripped of your [Hall of Fame] voting rights,” former Cincinnati Bengals wideout TJ Houshmandzadeh demanded.

“This is going to sound like a hot take for social media,” ‘The Fan’s’ Grant Paulsen tweeted. “I apologize for that in advance. But, it’s just correct. If you voted against Bill Belichick getting into the Hall of Fame, you should lose your vote. You should never get another one. You don’t belong. There are capable people waiting in the wings; you lost your privilege.”

The famous head coach compiled a 302-165 career record during his time at the helm of the Cleveland Browns and the Patriots. He ranks third all-time in regular-season wins and is the most successful head coach in postseason history, with 31 wins and six Super Bowl rings.

“ASININE,” WV Sports Now managing editor Mike Asti exclaimed. “I don’t care how anyone feels about him or where anyone ranks him, Bill Belichick led the greatest run any NFL franchise has ever enjoyed. There is no way to argue he’s not deserving of the f’ing Hall of Fame. Any voter who disagrees needs stripped of their vote.”

“Anyone who didn’t vote for him should have their vote stripped,” ‘The Dawgs’ Cleveland Browns podcast posted. “This is insane.”

The only counterargument raised during the controversy is ‘Spygate’ and ‘Deflategate.’ During the 2007 season, the Patriots were caught illegally filming opposing teams’ call signals (Spygate), resulting in financial and draft penalties.

In another instance, Belichick and company were caught deflating footballs during the 2014 AFC Championship game (Deflategate). The scandal resulted in penalties and the suspension of quarterback Tom Brady.

These cases are used by detractors to discredit Belichick’s claim to a first-ballot Hall of Fame induction.

However, most people stand firm in their support of the veteran coach.

“I genuinely believe that exposing people for not voting for Bill Belichick isn’t enough,” Boston sports page Savage tweeted. “They need to lose their ability to vote in the future. They’ve disgraced the game and themselves.”

Others called for voters to be removed and for the entire process to be changed.

“It’s not enough to say those who didn’t vote for Belichick shouldn’t be voters, though that is true,” NFL insider Dan Graziano said. “The process is bad. 50 people have a secret meeting every year, advocate for candidates from their markets, arm-twist, compromise, announce results. Makes no sense.”

The selection system is a rigid mechanism that grew into what it is today based on past situations.

It’ll be interesting to see whether action is indeed taken against those who snubbed Belichick from the Hall.
