One of the most fascinating stories following Week 18 was what the future would hold for the Baltimore Ravens franchise and their head coach, John Harbaugh. On Tuesday, it was announced that Harbaugh was being fired, and this elicited a response from the president.
What Was President Donald Trump’s Simple Reaction to John Harbaugh’s Firing?
Following the News of Harbaugh and the Ravens parting ways, President Donald Trump sent a clear message in a post on Truth Social.
He said,” Hire John Harbaugh, fast. He and his brother are winners.” The message was brief but direct, underscoring Trump’s belief that Harbaugh’s résumé speaks for itself and that his dismissal should not diminish his standing around the league.
Trump’s assessment is understandable, which is why Harbaugh’s firing caught many NFL fans off guard. While Harbaugh’s partnership with Jackson has yet to produce a Super Bowl championship, the two have still enjoyed sustained success. Over eight seasons together, the Ravens posted an 86–47 regular-season record and consistently remained contenders in the AFC. That level of stability is rare in today’s NFL.
The real issue, however, lies in the postseason. Baltimore went just 3–5 in playoff games during the Jackson-Harbaugh era, and repeated early exits ultimately raised questions about whether the franchise had hit its ceiling. For an organization with championship aspirations, regular-season success alone was no longer enough.
Even so, Harbaugh now becomes the hottest free agent coach available. The Las Vegas Raiders and Arizona Cardinals are two openings that make the most sense for Harbaugh. After the Pete Carroll experiment failed, Vegas is looking for somebody to stabilize them. With Tom Brady helping the coaching search, his eyes have to be glued to Harbaugh after playing him during his NFL career.
Arizona, on the other hand, would be an interesting destination for Harbugh. The Cardinals have never had a coach stay with the franchise for longer than five seasons. Although Harbaugh is on the older side, at 63, he may still end up coaching for another 6-7 seasons.
That said, even teams that have seemingly made decisions on their head coaches’ job security are looking at Harbaugh. According to Josina Anderson, the Miami Dolphins have been in touch with Harbaugh. Given that the Dolphins still need to hire a new general manager, Harbaugh being brought into Miami could be a possibility.
Trump may have said it simply, but his message reflects a broader league-wide reality: John Harbaugh won’t be unemployed for long.
