President Donald Trump Takes Subtle Dig at New York Jets While Praising Tim Tebow

Even during a national championship celebration at the White House for the Florida Gators, the New York Jets couldn't escape the jokes.

The Florida Gators visited the White House to celebrate their national championship win in college basketball this past season.

Among those in attendance was former Heisman Trophy winner and national champion quarterback Tim Tebow.

President Donald Trump Shouts Out Tim Tebow

During his speech praising the Gators’ championship run, President Donald Trump spotted Tebow in the crowd and gave the Gators legend a special shoutout.

He also couldn’t resist taking a jab at the New York Jets, saying:

“One of the greatest players I’ve ever seen … As a college player, maybe the best ever — and you did damn well in the pros … despite being on the Jets.”

Tebow became a household name during his time in Gainesville, where he was one of the greatest college quarterbacks in the history of the sport. He led the Gators to multiple national titles during his three years as a full-time starter before heading to the NFL.

While Tebow had some memorable moments in the NFL, especially with the Denver Broncos, his time with the New York Jets didn’t go as planned.

Tim Tebow and the New York Jets

President Trump’s dig at the Jets during a national title celebration may seem random, but it reflects just how rocky the team’s reputation has been.

After leading the Broncos to a surprising playoff win in 2011, Tebow was traded to the Jets in 2012 to make room for Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning.

Unfortunately, his time in New York was brief and underwhelming. Tebow played in 12 games but started just twice. He attempted only eight passes all season and didn’t record a single touchdown.

Following that season, Tebow spent time on the practice squads of the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

He later transitioned to professional baseball, joining the New York Mets organization and reaching their Triple-A affiliate, the Syracuse Mets. Had he stuck with it longer, he might have made it to the majors.

Still, Tebow remains one of the most iconic sports figures of the past two decades, especially in the state of Florida, even if his greatest success came in college.

For Florida fans, seeing President Trump recognize Tebow at the White House was likely a memorable moment. It served as a nostalgic reminder of Tebow’s legendary college career and the pride he brought to Gainesville. Moments like this connect past glory to present celebration, uniting generations of Gators fans in shared admiration.
