Kris Boyd is currently a depth piece in the New York Jets’ defensive secondary. The team is off on Sunday in Week 11 after playing on Thursday Night Football, but they may struggle to enjoy it. Their cornerback is reportedly in critical condition after being shot in Manhattan.
Kris Boyd Receives Prayers in Critical Condition After Being Shot in New York
Boyd was reportedly shot early Sunday morning in the overnight hours, two past midnight, in Midtown Manhattan. He is currently fighting to recover at Bellevue Hospital in New York, as an investigation is underway to determine the details of this tragic situation.
Many in the NFL shared their thoughts and prayers on social media after hearing concerning news about the Jets’ defensive back and special-teams player. This includes his teammate Jermaine Johnson II and fellow Texas Longhorns alum Emmanuel Acho, among many others.
“Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety. Lord I ask that you please just get him through this safely. In Your Name, Amen,” prayed Johnson.

Boyd began his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings when they selected him in the seventh round of the draft. He departed the team in 2023, and after brief stops with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans, he joined the Jets for the 2025 season to add depth to their defensive secondary amid their rebuild.
They traded away star cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the trade deadline in exchange for multiple future draft picks. He ranks 16th in PFSN’s CB Impact Rankings with an impact score of 85.3.
Of course, Gardner is a significant loss for their defense, but he provided enough value for them to cash in for potential building blocks.
It’s unclear if Boyd is a part of their plans after signing just a one-year contract with the team, but he has much bigger things to worry about right now. He at least seems to have plenty of support as he reportedly fights for his life.
