The͏ road to the NFL rarely runs ͏smooth, and for ͏Shilo Sanders, the last few weeks have been proof of ͏that reality. After a͏ turbulent preseason ͏with ͏the Tampa Bay͏ Buccaneers, his future became uncertain. Now, speculation points toward a fresh landing spot, one tied to a Super Bowl contender.
Sanders’ Rollercoaster Journey in Tampa
Sanders entered the Buccaneers’ training camp with an uphill battle. As reported by PFSN’s Richard Janvrin, he arrived as a 25-year-old undrafted safety from Colorado, where his father, NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, had coached him.
Despite flashes of͏ hard-͏hitting play in college, his profile came with concerns: ͏a ͏history of injuries, questions about͏ deep coverage skills, and his relatively advanced age for a rookie.
Throughout the preseason, Sanders͏ played 83 ͏snaps across multiple roles. According to Janvrin, the highlight came in Week 1 when he pressured Tennessee Titans ͏quarterback ͏Bran͏d͏on Allen on a ͏safety blitz.
Still, inconsistency ͏quickly followed. Against Pittsburgh in Week 2, he recorded ͏two tackles but also missed two, revealing both promise and shortcomings. By the finale against Buffalo, mistakes began to mount͏, including a missed open͏-field tackle on ͏tight end Jac͏kson Hawes.
The defining moment, however, came in the second quarter of that final preseason game. Sanders was ejected after throwing a punch at Bills tight end Zach Davidson.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles did not mince words: “You can’t throw punches in this league. That’s inexcusable. They’re going to get you every time. Gotta grow from that.”
Fans, as highlighted by PFSN’s Sebastian Mondaca, had largely pegged Sanders as someone more suited for the practice squad even before his ejection. When roster cuts arrived, the combination of uneven play and poor decision-making proved too much to overcome.
Why Philadelphia Eagles Makes Sense?
Even with the Buccaneers closing one door, another potential opportunity may be opening. The Philadelphia Eagles, a Super Bowl-caliber roster under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, have been identified as a logical landing spot for Sanders.
Fangio’s track record offers reason for optimism. Just last year, he saw potential in Zack Baun, a player who transformed from an afterthought in New Orleans into a Pro Bowler and All-Pro in Philadelphia.

With a culture and system that has ability to unlock overlooked talent, the Eagles represent something different. For a player who has already faced long odds, that might be the fresh start he needs.
