After watching the offense turn stagnant at the end of last season, the Philadelphia Eagles went out and made a big splash in free agency, signing running back Saquon Barkley. But will that be enough to turn the Eagles back into a serious Super Bowl contender?
Check out the Eagles’ betting outlook for the 2024 season.

Eagles Offense
Although they finished in the top 10 of the league in both scoring (seventh) and total yards (eighth), these rankings were somewhat misleading. Because after a 10-1 start to the season, the Eagles finished the regular season on a 1-5 bender, and the offense was held under 20 points in four of those six games.
That ineptitude on offense carried over to the playoffs, as Philadelphia managed just nine points in a miserable loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card.

Although he remains one of the league’s top quarterbacks, Jalen Hurts’ numbers last season were not at the same level as his MVP-runner-up season of 2022. The Eagles are hoping the signing of former Giants’ running back Barkley will help the offense revert to its early season form from last season.
The Eagles also made a splash during training camp when they made a trade with the Washington Commanders and acquired wide receiver Jahan Dotson. Dotson will team up with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith to form what could be the best wide receiver trio in the NFC East.
Eagles Defense
While the offense struggled down the stretch last season, the Eagles’ defense was a major problem for most of the year. Philadelphia ranked in the bottom 10 of the NFL in both total yards allowed (26th) and points allowed (30th).
The Eagles allowed 25 or more points in 10 of 18 games last season (including the playoffs), including seven games allowing 30+ points.
Philadelphia tried to address the defense in free agency, signing linebacker Devin White from the Buccaneers and defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson from the Detroit Lions. Gardner-Johnson spent the 2022 season in Philly before moving on to Detroit last season.
One Betting Trend to Know
The Eagles had a miserable time against the spread vs. opponents in their own conference, going 3-8-2 ATS last season vs. NFC opponents.

Fans will get to see if they can turn around this trend right away, as the Eagles’ first four games of the season are against the NFC, including three matchups vs. teams from the NFC South, one of the league’s weakest divisions.
Of course, that includes a rematch in Week 4 at Tampa Bay, a team that eliminated Philadelphia in the Wild Card Round.
Best Bet for Eagles in 2024
There appears to be more talent for the Eagles this season, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. I think taking a chance on the Eagles to win the NFC (+600) isn’t a bad idea at all.
However, I think this team shouldn’t have much of a problem going over 10.5 wins (+110). I can see the Eagles at least matching last season’s win total, and at plus value, the odds are right for me.

Pick: Cowboys-Eagles to finish in the top two of the NFC East (-160 at DraftKings)
There are some bets you take even at negative odds up to a certain point, and this very much feels like one of them. The New York Giants and Commanders feel a long way behind the Cowboys and Eagles in 2024. Jayden Daniels could surprise us as a rookie, and Daniel Jones could flash that high-level potential we have seen, but neither is likely.
The Cowboys and Eagles have dominated this division for the past three years and should be positioned to do so again. The beauty here is that both teams have built superior rosters to their division rivals, so even an injury to Hurts or Dak Prescott does not ruin this bet. I do not love tying up money for the entire season at -160, but this bet is one I feel pretty comfortable with.
