Philadelphia Eagles 2024 Season Preview: Projected Depth Chart, Predictions for Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and Co.

    Published on

The Eagles collapsed down the final stretch in 2023. Now Philadelphia is eager to bounce back in 2024, as we look ahead with our season preview.

After a disappointing end to last season, the Philadelphia Eagles are ready to bounce back in 2024.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has worked tirelessly to revamp Philadelphia’s roster and coaching staff this offseason.

While the Eagles have all of the pieces in place, it’s up to head coach Nick Sirianni and his coaching staff to put the puzzle together.

Here’s a look at what’s in store for the Eagles in 2024.

Can Jalen Hurts and the Eagles Bounce Back After a Disastrous Season?

Following a chaotic offseason filled with notable additions, the Eagles are viewed as a potential Super Bowl contender in the NFC. Although Jalen Hurts struggled with turnovers last season, he was an MVP candidate through the first half of the regular season.

Despite a 34-17 record through his first three regular seasons as an NFL head coach, Nick Sirianni could be coaching for his job in 2024. Therefore, the Eagles made two notable additions at offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator this offseason.

If the Eagles fall short, there could be a whole lot of change coming in the City of Brotherly Love. But despite the questions surrounding Sirianni’s future, the Eagles have more than enough talent to meet or exceed the team’s expectations in 2024.

While Philadelphia certainly enjoys playing the underdog role, the Eagles are viewed as the current favorite to win the NFC East. Now it’s up to Hurts, Sirianni, and the rest of the team to prove that last year’s embarrassing performance was an anomaly.

    Eagles’ Roster Changes

Following last season’s epic collapse, it was clear that Roseman and the Eagles needed to rethink the team’s strategy at several positions. After years of going the cost-effective route at running back, Roseman signed superstar Saquon Barkley to replace D’Andre Swift in Philadelphia’s backfield.

That wasn’t all in free agency, as the Eagles also reunited with safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and signed edge rusher Bryce Huff.

Roseman made a controversial decision this offseason: The Eagles traded star edge rusher Haason Reddick to the New York Jets. As a result, Huff will be relied upon to fill the void created by Reddick’s departure.

In an offseason full of changes in Roseman’s long-time philosophies, the Eagles also made several notable additions at linebacker. Philadelphia added Devin White, Zack Baun, and rookie Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to help revamp the team’s disappointing linebacker room.

The Eagles addressed the team’s remaining holes during the 2024 NFL Draft. Roseman selected cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in back-to-back rounds to start the event. Philadelphia’s secondary was thin last season and is now suddenly loaded with talent.

    Eagles’ Coaching Staff

While many called for Sirianni’s firing following last season’s epic collapse, the Eagles opted to greatly overhaul the coaching staff around him. The most notable additions were Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator and Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator.

Although Moore hasn’t landed a head coaching job just yet, he has been a hot candidate for openings in recent years. In an attempt to stick around in Philadelphia, Sirianni has seemingly handed over control of the team’s offense to Moore in 2024.

After a full season of dysfunction at defensive coordinator, it was time for the Eagles to bring in a respected voice, which is exactly why Fangio returned to Philadelphia following a brief stint with the team in 2022 as a consultant.

Fangio’s experience is a much-needed addition to coach up Philadelphia’s relatively young defense.

The Eagles made several other notable hires this offseason, including Christian Parker as defensive backs coach/passing game coordinator. Given Philadelphia’s youthful secondary, Parker brings experience and understanding to the room.

Clint Hurtt was hired as the defensive line coach/senior defensive assistant as Philadelphia looks to develop the team’s latest high draft picks. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Milton Williams should all improve under Hurtt’s watch.

    • Nick Sirianni, Head Coach
    • Kellen Moore, Offensive Coordinator
    • Vic Fangio, Defensive Coordinator
    • Michael Clay, Special Teams Coordinator
    • Jemal Singleton, Running Backs Coach/Assistant Head Coach

    Eagles’ 2024 Season Schedule

Although Philadelphia’s late-season collapse was tough to watch, it gave the Eagles an easier regular-season schedule. Thanks to finishing second in the NFC East, Philadelphia will avoid matchups against the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers.

While the Eagles will avoid the juggernauts of the NFC, there are certainly a few tough games on the team’s schedule, including the regular season “home” opener against the rising Green Bay Packers in Brazil.

According to Pro Football Network’s Strength of Schedule, the Eagles have the ninth-easiest slate of games during the 2024 regular season.

While some of Philadelphia’s matchups might seem easy on paper, they have played close games against teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Commanders in recent years.

2024 Season Prediction for the Eagles

The Eagles essentially have all the talent necessary to make another Super Bowl run. Yet it will all come down to coaching and execution, which were the team’s biggest weaknesses last season.

Thanks to Moore’s arrival, Philadelphia’s offense should take a massive step forward. While the Eagles put up impressive offensive stats last season, the offense was stagnant and predictable. Moore’s offensive scheme should breathe life into what appeared to be a lifeless offense in 2023.

On the defensive side of the ball, Fangio will provide a steady presence at the helm. After mixed messages from Sean Desai and Matt Patricia caused confusion last season, Fangio and his defensive staff should help the Eagles bounce back.

Hurts should bounce back and return to MVP form. He is excelling in Moore’s offense thus far, and he is surrounded by the most talent he’s ever had in Philadelphia. The arrival of Barkley should alleviate some of Hurts’ workload as a rusher as well.

Despite all of Philadelphia’s strengths, there are a few notable concerns. Did Roseman do enough this offseason to fix the team’s situation at linebacker and safety? If healthy, both units should take a step forward, but that is far from guaranteed.

The Eagles and Sirianni don’t have any excuses to fall short once again. Roseman has made the necessary additions to the team’s roster and coaching staff to make a playoff push.

Anything short of double-digit wins in the regular season and at least one postseason victory would be considered a failure in Philadelphia.

Record Prediction: 12-5 (1st in the NFC East)
