Pete Carroll opened up on the most recent Get Got Pod with Marshawn Lynch and Mike Robinson in a way that only he can: he was sincere, thoughtful, and passionate. Carroll took the time to discuss his lengthy and complicated relationship with Russell Wilson, the quarterback he helped become a superstar in Seattle, and who is currently playing with the New York Giants.
Russell Wilson Traded To Denver: What Happened Afterwards
Carroll made it obvious that his relationship with Wilson remains good despite the trade, the publicity, and the strain that followed.
“Yeah, we’re doing fine,” Carroll said. “I stay in contact with the guys as best I can. Russ is one to call you, and I heard a lot from him and stayed in contact with him throughout… just to help him and be there for him. Nobody knows those guys like I do. So if I can be there for him, answer some questions, or kick him in the butt or whatever.”
This type of remark serves as a reminder of Carroll’s character as a coach, one who continues to show real concern for his players even after they have gone on.
Their relationship wasn’t particularly pleasant after Wilson was dealt to the Broncos in 2022. There were rumors of conflict and that Wilson wanted more authority, while Carroll stuck to his plan. For a while, it seemed as though the coach and quarterback’s chapter had ended badly since the story centered on their disagreement.
However, feelings leveled out over time. Since then, Wilson, who is the expected starting quarterback for the New York Giants, has openly praised Carroll, referring to him as a “father figure” and declaring that he has “no hate in my heart.” Even at public events, they have been seen laughing together, a small gesture that reveals a lot about their relationship and forgiveness.
Strong Connection in Seattle
How could anyone forget that connection? In 2014, they helped Seattle win its first Super Bowl. They served as the franchise’s spokesperson for almost ten years. Despite the highs and lows, their partnership was based on faith and trust, especially in the face of adversity.
Carroll didn’t limit his remarks to football. They focused on the type of man he aspires to be. A coach who doesn’t abandon his players when circumstances shift. Someone who, even as the limelight wanes, still shows up.
There will be more than just a game when the Raiders and Giants play each other in Week 17 of the 2025 season. Two men who used to be next to each other but are now on opposite sides of the field will still be linked by everything they have created together.
