Former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar saw plenty of great moments in Happy Valley, helping lead the program to consecutive 10+ win seasons in 2023 and 2024, culminating in a 2024 Big Ten Championship appearance. Over his four years in the program, he set the school record for career completion percentage at 63.2%, and a former teammate just revealed how he accomplished such a rare feat.
What Did Drew Allar’s Ex-Teammate Reveal About His Habits?
Speaking exclusively with PFSN, Allar’s former teammate and current Penn State quarterback Jack Lambert said, “Watching Drew day-to-day, the biggest thing was his preparation. He didn’t just know his job — he knew what everyone on the field was doing on every play.”
That preparation was a big reason why Allar finished his Nittany Lions career with a 26-9 record, amassing 7,402 passing yards and 61 touchdowns, compared to just 13 interceptions.
Over the years, Allar spearheaded key wins against USC in 2024, throwing for 391 yards, the sixth-most in school history, en route to a massive road win, as well as a key win against Boise State in the 2024 College Football Quarterfinals.
These games, along with others in 2024, helped him achieve an 80.4 grade that season, according to PFSN’s CFB Quarterback Impact Grades, ranking 20th in the nation.
However, his most impressive game may have been his first career start, where he turned his 2023 opener into a major breakout moment, racking up 325 yards and three touchdowns in a home win against West Virginia, solidifying his status as the program’s unquestioned starting quarterback.
Lambert, who’s now the only returning quarterback on the roster, continued, “That kind of command of the offense is something I’ve really tried to take into my own routine, especially in how I study and prepare each week.”
Lambert would be wise to adopt Allar’s routines himself, as he competes most notably with Iowa State transfer quarterback Rocco Becht for Penn State’s starting quarterback job in 2026.

Allar’s preparation helped him get selected 76th overall in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, with PFSN analyst Ian Cummings saying, “Allar is perhaps the most quintessential ‘prototypical QB’ in the 2026 NFL Draft. A former five-star recruit, he has the frame at 6’5″, 235 pounds. He has the rocket arm, and he has the nimble mobility and arm elasticity to work off-platform.”
With recent news of Aaron Rodgers potentially re-signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Allar will likely have a great mentor to learn from, with hopes of starting in 2027 or beyond.
