New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has described the last two years as “the worst years of my 31 years of ownership.” Kraft then revealed whether he would consider selling the team after the Los Angeles Lakers were sold for around $10 billion.
Robert Kraft Pulls No Punches With Brutal Assessment of Recent Patriots Performances
Kraft attended Fanatics Fest 2025 and sat down with ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter for an episode of “The Adam Schefter Podcast.” During the interview, Kraft shared his hopes and expectations for the Patriots after hiring former Tennessee Titans head coach and Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel as new Patriots head coach.
“Any Patriots fans out there, I can tell you I’m very excited about this upcoming season,” Kraft said. “The last two years were the worst years of my 31 years of ownership. We have to change that. We have a new coach in Mike Vrabel, who’s really connected with the players, who’s doing great work.
“We have a young quarterback (Drake Maye), a lot of great veterans, free agent veterans who came in, a great draft class; we’re gonna have fun this year, I promise,” Kraft told Schefter.

The Patriots have an intriguing mix of youth and experience on their roster. Maye, a second-year quarterback, will be expected to lead the New England offense with newly-signed 31-year-old wide receiver Stefon Diggs as his primary target.
Explosive running back TreVeyon Henderson was added through the 2025 NFL Draft along with the class’s top offensive lineman, Will Campbell.
Kraft Shares Thoughts On Selling the New England Patriots
Since Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter agreed to purchase the Lakers, there has been a lot of talk about team valuations and potential sales. The NBA franchise will cost Walter an estimated $10 billion, a record sale for an American sports team.
Schefter brought up the sale during his interview and asked Kraft whether the eye-watering numbers involved had made him evaluate his own position.
“This past week, we saw someone pay $10 billion for a sports franchise,” Schefter said.
“What goes through your mind when you hear $10 billion, for an NBA team, the Los Angeles Lakers?”
Kraft claimed to be relatively unmoved by the number, stating his belief that the Patriots would remain under his family’s ownership for decades to come.
“It’s nice, but to me it’s like your house going up in value,” Kraft said. “My lifetime, and I believe, my children’s lifetime, we’re keeping control.”
Though things haven’t been smooth sailing since legendary quarterback Tom Brady left the team in 2020, Kraft’s ownership has been incredibly successful. The team won six Super Bowls in 18 years, all with Brady and head coach Bill Belichick, with the aforementioned Maye offering hope of future success.
