‘I Give Credit to Him’ — Patriots’ $42M Addition Reveals Mike Vrabel’s ‘Open, Honest’ Chats Amid Dianna Russini Scandal

The fallout of Mike Vrabel’s situation also involved the New England Patriots. The head coach was absent from Day 3 of the NFL Draft, returning to the facilities two days after the draft to begin the offseason program. Naturally, his personal situation was discussed with the players.

Alijah Vera-Tucker Praises Mike Vrabel for ‘Honesty’ After Dianna Russini’s Scandal

Vera-Tucker joined the Patriots during the offseason. He spent the past five years of his career with the New York Jets and watched closely as his division rivals made it to the Super Bowl. He was a great addition to the interior of the offensive line, provided he stays healthy.

The guard spoke with the press on Thursday and credited his coach for being honest with the players about his personal situation. The New England Patriots coach sought counseling amid the scandal involving him and NFL insider Dianna Russini, who recently resigned from The Athletic.

“I think just being open and honest. I think that’s key in any relationship, and I give credit to him,” Vera-Tucker said. “He’s very honest with us, very open as well. I don’t think a lot of people would be able to do that. I respect that a lot. And like I said, I’m excited to be coached by Vrabel. I think he’s a phenomenal coach in this league.”

Vrabel and the New England Patriots started the offseason in a different way than expected. After all, distractions are never welcome on any team, and the coach’s personal life getting into the way of the preparation for the season is not ideal.

At this time, it seems that the Patriots’ players have Vrabel’s back. Drake Maye, their franchise quarterback, also voiced his support for the coach when speaking with a local TV.

“We know he’s dealing with some stuff off the field and out of the coaching world, but we’re here for him and I know he’s gonna come back”, Maye said during the week.

The Patriots will also hope that the issue can be put to bed sooner rather than later. New England looks to build on their recent Super Bowl appearance, when it lost 29-13 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Vera-Tucker, on the other hand, will look to reach the playoffs for the first time in his career. His injuries are a concern, but when he’s on the field, he’s one of the best linemen for the Patriots. A new home could see his career take a new turn, as he signed a three-year, $42 million contract during free agency.
