As training camp begins, NFL teams have started releasing their PUP lists, which identify players physically unable to participate due to injuries.
One expected name on the list was new New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who tore his ACL in October 2024. However, before their training camp practices started, the Patriots received some positive news about the former All-Pro.
Patriots Receive Encouraging Injury Update on Stefon Diggs Before Training Camp
The Patriots hope to move past the post-Tom Brady rebuild during the 2025-2026 season. The team selected former North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he showed promise during his rookie year.
This offseason, they made a big move by signing Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $63.5 million contract to be Maye’s wide receiver one. Diggs is coming off a torn ACL suffered in 2024-2025 while playing for the Houston Texans in a Week 8 game against the Colts.
There were questions about Diggs’ readiness for Patriots training camp, but according to NFL insider Dianna Russini, the star wideout will be ready to go when practice begins tomorrow.

This is massive news for the Patriots, who are counting on the veteran to deliver a strong performance during the 2025-2026 season. The Minnesota Vikings initially drafted Diggs in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft before trading him to the Buffalo Bills in 2020.
His career took off in Buffalo, where he recorded four consecutive seasons with over 100 catches and 1,000 yards, earning first-team All-Pro honors in the 2020-2021 season and second-team All-Pro honors in 2022-2023.
Diggs was traded again at the end of the 2023-2024 season, this time from Buffalo to Houston. Although his role with the Texans was smaller than it had been with the Bills, he still performed well, catching 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns before suffering the torn ACL.

With a strong recovery, Diggs is expected to be ready for training camp, which is crucial for building chemistry with Maye before the season begins. Diggs will return to his role as the No. 1 wide receiver in New England, and Maye will rely heavily on him throughout the year.
The 2025-2026 season will be Diggs’ 11th year in the league. While he may no longer be at his peak, his performance will play a major role in determining the Patriots’ success.
This is not the first time Diggs has been paired with a young, rising quarterback. He joined the Bills as Josh Allen was entering his third NFL season. Before Diggs arrived, Allen’s career-high passing yards was 3,089, but in their first season together, Allen threw for 4,544 yards.
If Diggs can help Maye achieve similar growth, his signing will be a home run for the Patriots. His ability to participate in training camp is a promising start for the new WR-QB duo to develop strong chemistry.
