The trade-happy New England Patriots made headlines on Tuesday after shipping off a pair of defenders, and they may not be done.
Safety Kyle Dugger and defensive end Keion White were both shipped off to new teams ahead of the league’s Nov. 4 trade deadline. General manager Eliot Wolf still may not be done, as there appears to be some speculation swirling that running back Rhamondre Stevenson could be next on the chopping block.
Rhamondre Stevenson Not Spotted at Practice on Wednesday
The 27-year-old tailback missed the Patriots’ Wednesday practice. He was able to play through the entirety of this past weekend’s win over the Cleveland Browns, so fans immediately wondered if his absence meant he had been traded (or was on the verge of being dealt).
Stevenson’s absence, coupled with the team’s recent promotion of Terrell Jennings from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, led to fans speculating that his days with New England are numbered. The Patriots are high on Jennings and they also spent a second-round pick on Ohio State’s Treveyon Henderson in the spring.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter eventually reported that Stevenson missed practice due to a toe injury, pouring cold water on the trade rumors. Still, by that point, fans had already speculated that Stevenson was getting dealt.
If you ask fans, the writing is on the wall. “Possible Rhamondre trade?” One fan asked.

Another fan reiterated a similar question. “Getting traded?” he speculated.
Getting traded?

“Getting em outta here,” wrote another, even appearing somewhat giddy at the thought. Of course, a Stevenson departure just means more opportunities will be available for Henderson.
The sentiment on Stevenson’s absence on Wednesday was seemingly universal. “Finna trade Blud,” wrote another fan, almost matter-of-factly.

While the conversation is centered around Stevenson being traded, one fan isn’t ruling out the Patriots actually acquiring another running back before the deadline.
I mean, just because they signed Jennings doesn’t make another RB acquisition impossible. Rhamondre Stevenson trade incoming! 🤣

Has Rhamondre Stevenson Played Himself Out of New England?
While we now know that Stevenson is dealing with a toe injury, there will likely still be trade rumors swirling about the running back between now and the Nov. 4 deadline. An argument can certainly be made that he has played himself off the team.
A former 1,000-yard rusher for the Patriots, Stevenson has been mostly dependable in terms of production, but he has consistently battled a fumbling issue. It has been the most glaring aspect of his game that has prompted fans to urge the Patriots to move on.
In 64 games played in New England, Stevenson has fumbled 17 times, including 10 across the last two seasons. In just eight games this season, Stevenson has fumbled three times.
He’s averaging a career-low 3.4 yards per carry in an offense that has found its stride under the guidance of second-year quarterback Drake Maye. The Patriots are winners of five consecutive games, but Stevenson hasn’t been much of a catalyst for that.
He hasn’t topped 100 rushing yards in a game this season, and his lone bright spot thus far was the 142 total yards he registered from scrimmage in the Sept. 14 win over the Miami Dolphins that kick-started the Patriots’ winning streak.
