The NFL had one of the most significant votes in the last handful of years as the talks that were tabled at the league’s meetings earlier this year were ready to be voted on, with the legality of the tush push also being voted upon. It would need 24 votes to be banned for the upcoming 2025 NFL season, but only 22 NFL owners ended up voting against it, meaning that the tush push will be returning for this upcoming season.
The Philadelphia Eagles sent both owner Jeffrey Lurie and former NFL center Jason Kelce to the vote in an attempt to persuade teams on the fence about the decision. However, 10 teams would vote to keep the play in the league this season. People took to social media to share memes regarding the tush push, including former Super Bowl Champion and New England Patriots legend, Julian Edelman.
Julian Edelman Unleashes His Tush Push Meme
There have been a lot of jokes and memes released regarding the tush push as it has become one of the more divisive plays in the National Football League.
Edelman was with the New England Patriots for his entire 11-year career and took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to post a hilarious meme with Jason Kelce in order to convey his thoughts and feelings about the NFL Owner’s Meetings for this vote.

The reports around the league meeting were that it was tense. Lurie reportedly had a speech that was close to an hour long and even brought former All-Pro center and current ESPN employee Jason Kelce, who was initially rumored to have retired due to the physical conditions that the play takes on the body, and a main reason why he is involved in Edelman’s meme in the first place.
Kelce reportedly claimed that he would return to the league if he could run 60 tush pushes a game. According to studies by the NFL, there were no injuries resulting from the tush push.
The vote was close as it could be, and the 10 teams that voted against the ban were the following:
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Baltimore Ravens
- Cleveland Browns
- Detroit Lions
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Miami Dolphins
- New England Patriots
- New Orleans Saints
- New York Jets
- Tennessee Titans
With the play being allowed to be run for at least one more season, it will be interesting to see if the number of attempts and the effectiveness have any impact in comparison to the 2024 NFL season.
