The New England Patriots know they have a problem. Their offense has been stuck in neutral for too long, and one of the most significant issues has been the lack of a true No. 1 wide receiver. With young quarterback Drake Maye under center and a fresh coaching staff, New England needs a veteran playmaker who can change games.
Now, they might have their eyes on someone who fits that description perfectly. A four-time Pro Bowler with 70 career touchdowns was in Foxboro for a visit, sparking speculation that the Patriots could be on the verge of a major move.

New England Patriots Host All-Pro WR Stefon Diggs for Visit
The receiver in question is none other than Stefon Diggs. According to The Athletic’s Chad Graff, the veteran wideout was in New England to meet with the team:
“Stefon Diggs is in Foxboro to meet with the New England Patriots, according to a source. The Patriots badly need WR help and Diggs could provide that even if he may not be ready Week 1 as he recovers from an ACL tear.”

That last part is key. Diggs suffered a torn ACL with the Houston Texans in Week 8 last season, limiting him to just eight games, 47 catches, 496 yards, and three touchdowns. The question is whether Diggs, 31, can return to the form that made him one of the league’s best route-runners and most dangerous deep threats.
Diggs’ NFL Track Record Speaks for Itself
Before the injury, Diggs was a model of consistency. Over his 10-year career, he’s piled up 857 receptions, 10,491 yards, and 70 touchdowns.
That production is why he remains among the top available free agents, even with injury concerns. Pro Football Sports Network’s Top 121 Free Agents list ranks him No. 41, a sign that teams still see him as a potential difference-maker.
A decade into his career, he may not have many peak years left, but if he can bounce back, Diggs would instantly become the best receiver the Patriots have had in years.
Do the Patriots Need Diggs?
The short answer? Absolutely.
The Patriots’ receiving corps has been underwhelming for a while now. Last season, no one in the lineup truly struck fear into opposing defenses. Maye needs a reliable target, and while the team added Mack Hollins this offseason, he’s more of a complementary piece than a WR1.
But adding Diggs comes with risks:
- Health: Can he stay on the field after a serious knee injury?
- Contract: How much will it cost to bring him in?
- Locker Room Fit: Diggs is known for being fiery and outspoken — would he mesh with the Patriots’ culture?
If New England pulls the trigger, it could be a game-changing move. If not, they must keep searching for that elusive No. 1 receiver.
