The New England Patriots look dominant with quarterback Drake Maye leading the charge. New England comfortably took down the Tennessee Titans in Week 7, 31-13.
This is their fourth consecutive victory, taking down the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, and Carolina Panthers in previous weeks. Maye is playing outstanding football, and almost everyone in the NFL world agrees the organization has found its next face of the franchise.
While he has enormous shoes to fill, Maye is already breaking records set by the great Tom Brady.
Patriots QB Drake Maye Already Making New England History
The Patriots announced major news related to Maye after Sunday’s win against the Titans, sharing that “QB Drake Maye set a franchise record for the highest completion percentage in a single game (min. 20 pass att.) with a 91.3 completion percentage at Tennessee. The previous record was held by Tom Brady, who had an 88.5 completion percentage vs. Jacksonville on Dec. 27, 2009.”
Maye finished the game against Tennessee with 21 of his 23 passing attempts completed for 222 yards and two passing touchdowns. On top of that, he recorded eight carries for 62 rushing yards. The former No. 3 pick clearly has all the tools necessary to lead New England back to the biggest stage.
The Patriots will look to continue their win streak in Week 8 against the underwhelming Cleveland Browns.
As previously stated, this record was only set because Maye threw more than 20 passes. A scare early in the game against the Titans could have prevented this franchise record from being broken.
Maye got brought down hard by Titans cornerback Roger McCreary after a six-yard scramble, causing his head to bounce hard off the turf. He would get up and shake his head and wound up getting pulled for a concussion evaluation that lasted all of three plays.
With Maye in and out of the blue medical tent in seemingly no time at all, some fans were quick to question how seriously the Patriots and the NFL took his head trauma, given how well the young quarterback was playing against the Titans. This user posted a GIF on X showing how lax the concussion check seemed.
Another user shared the sentiment, explaining, “There’s just no way concussion protocol is real if Maye’s back in already.”
One Dolphins fan compared the situation to the many times quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has gone down due to head-related injuries, saying, “Drake Maye goes down and returns with the fastest concussion protocol check to date. Tua would be forced to retire on the spot.”
