For years, questions have swirled about Patrick Peterson’s relationship with Kyler Murray, largely due to public comments from the veteran cornerback. Now, Peterson is addressing the topic head-on, admitting past mistakes while making it clear that there’s no lingering bad blood — just a relationship that needs work.

Patrick Peterson Clears the Air With Kyler Murray
During a recent appearance on the “Up & Adams Show,” Peterson was asked directly about his relationship with the Arizona Cardinals quarterback. His answer was candid.
“There’s no relationship there, but there will be,” Peterson admitted. “I know that I was a little bit outspoken when I said certain things, and I was kind of in the wrong. But at the end of the day, I know that I’m a man, and he’s a man, and I definitely want to make that better.”
It was a significant shift from the tone Peterson had taken in the past, particularly in 2022 when he made headlines for calling out Murray’s leadership and attitude. But now, he’s walking it back — not completely, but enough to acknowledge that his criticism could have been handled differently.

Where the Rift Started Between Peterson and Murray
Peterson’s criticism of Murray became public in late 2022, when he questioned the young quarterback’s leadership on his “All Things Covered” podcast. At the time, Murray was visibly frustrated with the Cardinals’ offensive struggles, even voicing his discontent during postgame press conferences. Peterson, who had spent a decade in Arizona before leaving in free agency, didn’t hold back his thoughts.
“Kyler Murray doesn’t care about nobody but Kyler Murray,” Peterson said in one of the more memorable soundbites.

The comment spread quickly across social media, prompting a direct response from Murray. The quarterback fired back, calling the remark false and insinuating that Peterson was using his name for podcast clicks. It became clear that there was tension, not just from Peterson’s perspective but from Murray’s as well.

Peterson later clarified his comments, stating that his frustrations stemmed from Murray’s body language and leadership style. He believed the young quarterback needed to command the locker room better, understanding that his teammates would follow his energy.
Patrick Peterson’s Efforts to Rebuild Trust
Fast forward to today, and Peterson is singing a different tune. While he’s still standing by some of his previous observations, he’s also acknowledging that his delivery could have been better — and that he should have spoken to Murray directly instead of airing his concerns publicly.
“That could’ve been something me and him could’ve talked about,” Peterson admitted.
Before leaving Arizona, Peterson wrote a note to Murray and left it in his locker, encouraging him to embrace his leadership role. Now, he’s seeing signs that Murray has done exactly that.
“He has been doing a much better job with his body language, his leadership, and it’s just going to continue making that team that much better because they follow his every move,” Peterson said.
Time will tell if both players ever mend their relationship, but at least Peterson is offering to make things right again.
