Despite overwhelming success on several fronts, Jason and Travis Kelce give back to a local charity, providing smiles and raising money. Now, in sports philanthropy, you must decide who to praise. Too often, athlete-led charities fail to meet expectations and often serve a public relations purpose. Instead of assisting the greater good, too many charities purposefully fall short.
Once upon a time, tennis great Andre Agassi once said, “Image is everything.” However, when you find a truly altruistic endeavor by athletes, they deserve all of the kudos and praise. After watching the actions of the Kelce brothers and a few famous friends, including Patrick Mahomes, participate in the noblest endeavor that you will see this year.
Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes Raise Millions for Kansas City Children’s Charity
On the field, Jason, Travis and Mahomes drew equal amounts of praise (and annoyance) due to their constant successes. However, these irritations resided along with team tribalism. Now, when regular sneakers replace the cleats and the helmet safely nestles in the locker, these athletes become regular people.
As a result, whenever anyone donates their time in order to help raise money for a charity, commendation should remain the first feeling expressed. At Big Slick, a charity tournament that benefits Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy, the two Kansas City Chiefs and one former Philadelphia Eagle took to the stage for an outstanding cause.
The names of the non-athletes mentioned are actors who are rabid Chiefs fans. What makes the event different is the genuine demeanor among the celebrity attendees. However, the former Eagles standout took to the stage to raucous applause.
The highlight of the event focused on the elder Kelce, a six-time All-Pro offensive lineman dropping into his stance, appearing to snap the ball to Mahomes, but instead sent it sailing over the crowd to his younger brother. Unfortunately, Jason didn’t connect with Travis, and it landed in the hands of an audience member, who then returned it to Travis.

The event raised over $4.5 million, which will support the children’s hospital in providing essential services to the youngsters.
For the patients, many of them fighting illnesses and conditions that are their daily battle, watching their heroes on stage must make their entire day. For that entire day, no one who watched the stage rooted for their team at the expense of the Chiefs. Instead, we all became fans of not only the athletes but also the patients, along with the doctors and nurses who work with them each and every day.
