Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have proven to be one of the greatest quarterback-pass catching duos in NFL history. They have played 109 regular season games together, with Kelce recording 8,126 receiving yards and 55 touchdowns on 686 receptions off of Mahomes’ passes.
The Kansas City Chiefs stars have an incredible 87-22 record when they take the field together.
They have been just as successful in the postseason. In 20 playoff games, the duo have connected 155 times for 1,784 yards and 19 touchdowns. Each of those numbers are NFL records for a quarterback and pass catching duo. Mahomes and Kelce are also 17-4 in 20 career postseason games together.
The Chiefs have won three Super Bowls, made five Super Bowl appearances, and advanced as far as the AFC Championship Game in each of the seven seasons since Mahomes took over.
Naturally, the two stars have developed a close friendship off the field as well. Ahead of Kelce’s upcoming appearance in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, which will mark his feature film debut, his quarterback shared his unique plans to celebrate the moment.

Chiefs Star Patrick Mahomes Shares Plans to Celebrate Travis Kelce’s Appearance In ‘Happy Gilmore 2’
Kelce has a role in the upcoming Adam Sandler comedy, “Happy Gilmore 2,” which is set to release later this month. Mahomes is set to make an appearance on the Up & Adams Show. In a recently released preview of the upcoming episode, he revealed his unique plans to celebrate his teammate’s feature film debut, stating:
“Happy Gilmore, iconic movie in my childhood. Having Travis Kelce in there, and I’ve heard his part is great, he won’t tell me a lot, I want to rent out a movie theater and let it be a team bonding experience.”

It is no surprise that Mahomes is willing to rent out a movie theater to support Kelce. The All-Pro quarterback and tight end duo have developed a close bond over the past eight seasons as teammates. They are two of just five players who have remained on Kansas City’s roster since 2017, Mahomes’ rookie season.
The quarterback’s gesture reflects the tight-knit culture that has helped fuel the Chiefs’ championship runs. Mahomes has consistently shown his support for teammates’ ventures outside football, whether it’s Kelce’s podcast success or his various entertainment projects. This movie theater idea fits perfectly with his leadership style of bringing the team together for shared experiences.
The Core Group That Built a Dynasty in Kansas City
Mahomes and Kelce are the only two offensive players who have not left the Chiefs, joined by defensive tackle Chris Jones, kicker Harrison Butker, and long snapper James Winchester. While Kareem Hunt did return to the franchise in 2024, he had a five-year stint with the Cleveland Browns between 2019 and 2023.
This continuity has been crucial to Kansas City’s sustained success. The chemistry between Mahomes and Kelce extends beyond just knowing each other’s tendencies on the field. Their friendship has become a cornerstone of the team’s culture, with both players often crediting their relationship as a key factor in their ability to perform in clutch moments.
The original ‘Happy Gilmore’ was released in 1996 and became a comedy classic, grossing over $38 million at the box office. Kelce’s role in the sequel represents another step in his expanding entertainment career, which already includes his successful podcast “New Heights” with brother Jason Kelce and various television appearances.
“Happy Gilmore 2” is set to release on July 25, giving Mahomes plenty of time to coordinate his team bonding movie night. With the Chiefs entering another championship chase, this kind of off-field camaraderie could prove just as valuable as their on-field connection.
