‘We Have So Many Weapons’ — Patrick Mahomes Sends Strong Message About Chiefs WR Room After Rashee Rice’s Return

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shares strong belief in wide receiver room following return of Rashee Rice.

The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the 2025 season with a chip on their shoulder. After falling short in Super Bowl LIX, the reigning AFC champions are reloading with one of the deepest wide receiver groups of the Patrick Mahomes era.

Patrick Mahomes, now entering his eighth season as the Chiefs’ starter, made it clear during a recent appearance on the “Up & Adams Show” that he’s excited about what’s brewing in Kansas City’s offense, and it starts with the return of Rashee Rice.

What Makes This Chiefs Wide Receiver Room So Deep?

When asked what excites him most about the Chiefs’ wide receiver room outside of health, Mahomes pointed to the sheer volume of talent across the board.

“I think it’s gonna come from everywhere,” Mahomes said. “I mean obviously you got Rashee (Rice) being back, he looks great. Xavier Worthy who came on so strong at the end of last year. You have Hollywood Brown healthy again. Guys everywhere.”

Mahomes also emphasized the importance of tight end play and the overall depth in the offense.

“You add in Travis Kelce, a Hall of Famer. Noah Gray, a great tight end. And everybody we’ve added to all the different rooms. We have so many weapons. Let’s go out there and maximize it all. It’s not gonna just be one person, it’s gonna be the entire offense going out there and showcasing what the Kansas City Chiefs truly are.

How Will Rashee Rice’s Return Impact Kansas City’s Offense?

Rice appeared in just four games in 2024 but made the most of his limited action. He totaled 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 12.0 yards per catch.

Week 2 saw Rice post an impressive stat line of 5 receptions for 75 yards and his first touchdown of the year. His best performance came in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons where he hauled in 12 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown.

The second-year receiver out of SMU had 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2023. Now healthy and back in the fold, Rice gives Kansas City a reliable target who can work the middle of the field and create separation in short areas.

What Can Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown Bring to the Table?

Rookie wideout Xavier Worthy had a strong finish to his first NFL season, recording 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns across 17 regular season games. The first-round pick out of Texas also added 104 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, showcasing his versatility in Andy Reid’s offense.

Worthy’s career-high 157-yard performance in the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was a bright spot in an otherwise tough night for Kansas City. His ability to stretch the field and create yards after the catch gives Mahomes a dynamic weapon on the outside.

Hollywood Brown, meanwhile, was limited to just two regular season games in 2024 due to injury. He finished with nine receptions for 91 yards, but the Chiefs remain optimistic about his impact in 2025. The Chiefs re-signed Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $11M in March.

When healthy, Brown brings elite speed and deep-threat ability that can open up the field for Travis Kelce, Rice, and others. During the 2021 season with the Baltimore Ravens, Brown averaged 11.1 yards per reception.

Kansas City’s 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX exposed some of the team’s offensive limitations. Drops, miscommunications, and a lack of explosive plays plagued the unit on the biggest stage. The Chiefs managed just 22 points against an Eagles defense that allowed 17.8 points per game during the regular season.

With a retooled receiver room and a healthy core, the Chiefs are aiming to bounce back in 2025. Mahomes’ confidence in the group is clear, and if the pieces stay healthy, Kansas City could be even more dangerous than before.

The message from Mahomes tells everyone that the weapons are still there. Now it’s time for the team to maximize them and get back to the Super Bowl for the fourth consecutive season.
