On a day typically reserved for the business of football, the sports world was captivated by a different kind of breaking news. NFL players and insiders alike celebrated on Tuesday, August 26, after Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift announced their engagement.
The news shared via an Instagram post quickly set social media on fire.
What Was the NFL’s Reaction to the Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift Engagement?
It didn’t take long for one of Kelce’s most important teammates to share his joy. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who hopes to help Kelce win another Super Bowl ring this season,Ā found the Instagram announcement and quickly commented on the news. He showed his support by posting three heart emojis on his Instagram Stories.
Additionally, Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna also reacted to the announcement. ESPN Chiefs writer Nate TaylorĀ shared his response on X, writing, “Mike Danna on the announced engagement of Travis Kelce & Taylor Swift: ‘Man, it’s incredible, great for them. Anytime you find that joy, happiness, it’s a beautiful thing. I just got told 30 seconds ago (laughing). That’s a beautiful thing to see.'”
Others in the NFL world quickly joined in. ESPN NFL analyst Dan OrlovskyĀ was also overjoyed by the Kelce and Swift engagement news. He went to X to post his reaction, sharing the initial post featuring photos of the couple with their engagement rings.

Some commentators had fun with the timing of the announcement. KC Sports Network writer and podcast host Kent Swanson had a clever take, suggesting the Chiefs might need to adjust their roster plans. While Tuesday was NFL Cutdown DayĀ across the league, Swanson offered the team some advice, writing, “SOURCES: Taylor Swift has made the team.”
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter also found a nice twist in his post, blending the league-wide roster moves with the engagement news.

Finally, the Kingdom X account, which covers all things Chiefs, kept its post simple: “Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are getting married”. A ring emoji was added at the end for emphasis.
Swift recently appeared on the “New Heights” podcast,Ā which Travis hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. During her appearance, she revealed the album cover for her new record, “The Life of a Showgirl.”Ā Swift also talked about becoming an NFL fan and, of course, meeting and getting to know Travis.
While no wedding date has been announced, people around the world, including many within the NFL, are busy celebrating the news.
No one saw this coming on Tuesday, a day typically reserved for players learning whether they were being kept or cut. It is safe to say that this was the biggest transaction of the day.
