Patrick Mahomes Dynasty Profile: Fantasy Outlook, Value, Projections, and Rankings

The surest of things every year, what does Patrick Mahomes' future look like, and what is his value in dynasty fantasy football leagues going forward?

As we inch toward the new season, the ever-changing NFL landscape has player fantasy values constantly on the move. Whether you’re used to the dynasty platform or are still learning the rules, let’s dive into the latest dynasty fantasy football value of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes’ Dynasty Outlook and Value

It can often be just as difficult to write about incredible players as it is about players who barely play. What can you say about Mahomes that hasn’t already been said?

He’s the best quarterback I’ve ever seen. Through his first six seasons, he’s more accomplished than Tom Brady did at that same point in their careers… and Mahomes is two years younger. He’s not on a Hall of Fame pace; he is a Hall of Famer already.

In five seasons as a starting quarterback, Mahomes has never averaged fewer than 20.7 fantasy points per game and never finished lower than QB6 overall. He’s finished as a top-two fantasy quarterback three times and is completely bulletproof as a fantasy asset.

While losing one of the five best wide receivers in the NFL certainly isn’t good for a quarterback, the 2022 season proved that Mahomes doesn’t really need anyone to be an elite player. He averaged 25.1 ppg in a season where his top two wide receivers were JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The reality is that this was the least talent with which the Kansas City Chiefs surrounded Mahomes in his entire career. Yet, he posted an elite QB1 season and won another Super Bowl.

Mahomes is entering his age-28 season and is just now in the second year of the 10-year extension he signed ahead of the 2020 season. He’ll be in Kansas City until at least 2031.

The only potential hiccup in Mahomes’ future is his head coach. Andy Reid is 64 years old and has been coaching for a very, very long time. He’s not hanging it up just yet, but it does seem unlikely that Reid stays for the duration of Mahomes’ contract.

Of course, fantasy managers don’t really care about 2030. But if Reid were to leave in 2024 or 2025, that’s soon enough to be worth factoring in, at least to the extent possible.

    Patrick Mahomes’ Fantasy Ranking

With that said, Mahomes is an otherworldly talent, the likes of which we may never see again. Perhaps he wouldn’t have reached his full potential without Reid — it’s something we’ll never know — but, at this point, he’s going to succeed either because of or in spite of any coach he has. Nothing can stop Mahomes’ greatness anymore.

While I would prefer Josh Allen or Jalen Hurts in 2023, and likely for each individual season after that, Mahomes remains my dynasty QB1. He’s currently our QB2 and second overall player in our dynasty Superflex rankings.

Mahomes’ floor is unmatched, and his ceiling remains as high as anyone to ever play the position. No one would fault you for selecting him first overall in a dynasty startup draft.
