Is Parker Romo Related to Cowboys Legend Tony Romo? Get to Know the Falcons Kicker’s Family

Atlanta Falcons kicker Parker Romo will see action Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Is he related to former NFL quarterback Tony Romo?

While Tony Romo is no longer playing for the Dallas Cowboys and now calls games with Jim Nantz for CBS Sports, another Romo has made his way into the NFL.

The Atlanta Falcons signed kicker Parker Romo to the practice squad last week. On Saturday, the Falcons announced that starting kicker Younghoe Koo would not play in Atlanta’s Sunday night game against the Minnesota Vikings. Koo was ruled out with a non-injury situation, according to the team.

Romo was called up from the practice squad and will now see NFL action.

Are Parker Romo and Tony Romo Related?

Parker Romo grew up a Cowboys fan, so it’s likely he saw Tony Romo connect on some touchdown passes during his career. He remains a Cowboys fan, even though he is giving the Falcons his full attention.

Parker, a native of Peachtree City, Georgia, played college football at Central Arkansas and Tulsa. His parents are James and Brenda Romo, but they are not related to Tony. The same goes for Parker.

Before joining the Falcons, Parker had some NFL experience. He spent time last season with the Vikings, making 11 of 12 field goal attempts, and was on the New England Patriots’ roster during the 2025 preseason.

Romo actually played in the XFL in 2023 for the San Antonio Brahmas, where he kicked the longest field goal in league history at 57 yards.

Atlanta head coach Raheem Morris was not pleased with Koo’s efforts last Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Koo missed a game-tying field goal as time expired. He had made an earlier kick, but the Buccaneers had called timeout, negating the attempt. Morris wanted Koo to have competition, which is why the Falcons brought Parker into the organization.

Who Is Parker Romo’s Favorite NFL Player?

While it might be reasonable to think Tony is Parker’s favorite NFL player, that’s not the case. Instead, it is one of Tony’s former teammates, kicker Dan Bailey, who played with the Cowboys in 2011.

Parker went by his full name, John Parker Romo, while playing at Tulsa, but now goes by Parker while answering questions about his potential connection to Tony.

It will be fun for Falcons fans to see if Parker can step up in Koo’s absence. If he performs well against the Vikings, it’s not much of a stretch to see him take over full-time kicking duties.

Because the game is on “Sunday Night Football,” Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth will be on the call, not Tony Romo. Don’t be surprised, though, if Tony tunes in to see how his fellow Romo fares in Minneapolis.
