Are the Packers Playing Their Starters Today vs. the Colts? A Look at Green Bay’s Plan for Preseason Week 2

After Jordan Love went down with an injury, what is the status for the Green Bay Packers starters in Week 2 of the preseason against the Colts?

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a disappointing outing against the New York Jets in Week 1 of the preseason. Despite playing their starters, the Packers fell 30-10. As a result, many believed Matt LaFleur might change his initial plans regarding the playing time for the starters in the preseason. Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts seemed like the perfect opportunity for the franchise to find its footing before the 2025 season.

However, an injury to Jordan Love has thrown a wrench into those plans. Their franchise quarterback, who’s entering his third year as a full-time starter in Green Bay, is hoping to take that next step into the upper echelon of the league.

But with an injury almost certainly keeping him out of action against Indianapolis, will LaFleur’s plan regarding his starters’ playing time change in Week 2?

Will Jordan Love and Key Packers Starters Play Against the Colts?

For Love, it is near impossible that he lines up against the Colts. Even if healthy, the Packers will almost certainly exercise caution and prioritize his long-term health before some extended reps in the preseason.

As a result, his name being off the depth chart is virtually guaranteed. Even for the rest of the roster, though, LaFleur made it clear that he wasn’t going to make a panic change. Instead, he planned on sticking with the strategy he had devised before the preseason.

That involved the starters getting some action against New York before participating in joint practices with Indianapolis. As for the preseason game itself, the head coach was firmly against the idea of more time on the field for his best unit.

Even after the loss to the Jets, LaFleur was unmoved, pointing to last year as a definitive example of his strategy being the correct one. “We’re going to stick with our process. We feel pretty good about how we’ve been doing it.”

In a game against the Broncos, the only points the Packers scored were via safety. “Last year, at this time we got a wakeup call versus Denver. You’d rather have it now than in the regular season, but you’ve got to do something about it, too.”

For the fan base, seeing Jordan Morgan earn the starting left tackle position and trying to find another consistent wide receiver threat between Julian Hicks, Cornelius Johnson, Will Sheppard, Isaiah Neyor, and Kawaan Baker.

With both positions vitally important for their offense, particularly as injuries continue to pile on for Love, there is a lot that Titletown has to look forward to when squaring off against the Colts.
