The Mike Vrabel scandal has been the talk of the NFL offseason. After his pictures alongside Dianna Russini surfaced on social media, they have remained in the spotlight without pause. So far, both sides have dealt with some consequences.
But the growing sentiment over the last couple of days has been about a potential termination of the veteran head coach from his role with the New England Patriots. However, according to one insider, such a scene would be a gross overreaction.
Mike Vrabel Isn’t Alone in His Antics
When the pictures from their getaway in Arizona were first released, there was a lot of doubt about their credibility. But over time, as more dots have continued to connect, and new information has become available, the affair is starting to become an accepted reality.
Initially, there was direct pushback from Russini about the insinuation. Instead, she claimed that their meeting was pure happenstance. Still, she resigned from her position at The Athletic while the situation remained a mystery.
Then, Vrabel essentially confirmed the story when revealing the tough conversations he’d had, both with his family and the Patriots organization. Still, the scandal hasn’t left people’s minds, as new developments seem to emerge every day.
From Spotify playlists to boat rentals, every news piece reveals another layer to the story. As a result, there has been a growing sentiment regarding Vrabel and his future with the Patriots.
After his tenure with the Tennessee Titans, he joined New England last season. The results were immediate, as they went from a four-win team to representing the AFC in the Super Bowl. Moving forward, the hope has to be that the franchise can continue to develop on that first glimmer of success.
But given the scandal’s murky nature, there were concerns that the reigning Coach of the Year might lose his authority in the locker room. Moreover, the entire situation could become a distraction that forces the Patriots organization to step in.
However, veteran Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright doesn’t think the situation is a big deal. Instead, he took to X to clarify why he didn’t see a Vrabel removal coming in the future, while potentially dragging a few other head coaches under the bus.

“Vrabel will be coaching week 1 unless he decides not to. If an (alleged) affair was enough to get a coach fired, about half the league over the last 20 years would’ve been fired. I’m not gonna sit here and name names, but there are dozens of just the known affairs out there.”
It remains to be seen if more of these stories come to light. But if the situation is as commonplace as Allbright makes it out to be, then it could end up becoming a non-factor by the time the season rolls around.
