Indiana’s passing attack has quietly produced one of the more intriguing wide receiver prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft class, and Omar Cooper Jr. is starting to gain real traction.
While much of the early conversation has centered around the consensus top three at the position, Cooper is forcing his way into the next tier with a blend of production, athletic traits, and developmental upside.

“He’s not my wide receiver four, but I think outside of the consensus top three, he is the highest ceiling of the bunch,” said PFSN NFL draft analyst Jacob Infante on the latest episode of “Football Debate Club.”
That statement frames Cooper as a projection-based bet rather than a finished product. The appeal lies in how his tools translate to the next level. Infante pointed to a well-rounded athletic and technical foundation that gives Cooper a chance to outplay his draft slot if developed properly.
“You’re looking at a guy with tremendous ball skills, only dropped 4.2% of his targets last year. He’s an explosive athlete. He’s got good body control across the middle of the field. 143.2 passer rating when targeted, legit 4.42 speed in the 40-yard dash. He’s physical at the catch point, and he’s got that intriguing combo of agility and contact balance after the catch. He’s got the raw tools to be a potential wide receiver one.”
That combination shows up on tape. Cooper plays with a compact, sturdy build at 6-foot, 201 pounds, and he consistently uses that frame to win through contact. He can stretch the field vertically, but he is just as dangerous turning short and intermediate catches into chunk gains thanks to his balance and burst.
His YAC stands out as he accelerates quickly, absorbs contact, and keeps his feet moving, making him a reliable option on crossers, slants, and seam routes, where he can generate extra yardage.
There is also nuance to his game as a route runner, with flashes of tempo variation and the ability to sell breaks.
Cooper’s Production, Growth, and 2026 Patriots Projection
Cooper’s development is backed by measurable improvement. In 2024, he posted a C+ grade with a 79.0 PFSN CFB WR Impact Score, ranking No. 53. A year later, he took a clear step forward, earning a B- grade and an 83.0 score through 13 games.
His production followed suit, hauling in 58 receptions on 76 targets for 804 yards and 11 touchdowns.
That upward trajectory reinforces the idea that his best football could still be ahead of him. There are still areas to clean up, including occasional drops and continued refinement in the intermediate route tree, but the growth curve is encouraging.
Infante’s final mock of the 2026 NFL Draft cycle reflects that belief in Cooper’s upside. He projected Cooper to the New England Patriots via a trade up from No. 31, noting the urgency at the position after offseason changes. With wide receiver needs becoming more pressing, adding a player with Cooper’s skill set could address both immediate depth and long-term upside.
In that projection, Cooper is not just filling a roster spot, but represents a calculated swing on traits. His blend of ball skills, speed, and physicality gives him a chance to carve out a significant role early, especially in an offense willing to scheme touches and let him work after the catch.
