Texas A&M Volleyball Coach Reveals Powerful ‘Never Give Up’ Mentality That Led to Crushing Regional Semifinal Victory

The Texas A&M Volleyball team made it to the NCAA Regional final after winning against Louisville; head coach Jamie Morrison praised the team's strong display.

The Texas A&M Volleyball team punched its ticket to the NCAA Regional final after outlasting the Louisville Cardinals in a thrilling five-set showdown on Friday, December 12, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The Aggies shone with standout performances, including senior opposite hitter Logan Lednicky’s 20 kills and 12 digs. At the same time, Maddie Waak orchestrated the offense with pinpoint assists, and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla anchored the defense with crucial blocks.

Next up, Texas A&M faces a formidable challenge as they take on the undefeated Nebraska Huskers in the final on December 14.

What Message Did Texas A&M Volleyball Head Coach Jamie Morrison Send After The Win?

Now in his third year at the helm, Jamie Morrison brings a wealth of championship experience to Texas A&M Volleyball. Having coached the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team to Olympic gold in Beijing 2008 and helped guide the U.S. Women’s National Team to silver in London 2012 and bronze in Rio 2016, Morrison has led the Aggies to their most impressive NCAA tournament runs yet.

After the hard-fought win over Louisville, Morrison reflected in a press conference on what fueled his team’s resilience when the match stretched into a decisive fifth set: (1:28 onwards)

“I think what I said – they showed who they are. And again, in a moment where most teams might fold and give up, we didn’t. We leaned into what we needed to do. We leaned into them. We showed the world who we are, and that’s one of the biggest things we talk about in our program.” he said.

He also added that these types of performances are possible in the long-term future:

“We’re a really good volleyball team made up of really high-character individuals that are able to go do something like that, and it’s going to continue to happen for years to come.”

During the regular season, Texas A&M impressed with a 14-1 record, finishing just behind Kentucky in the SEC race. Now, as they enter the final stretch of the NCAA tournament, the Aggies are hungry to capture their first-ever NCAA Championship.

Important Milestones Texas A&M Volleyball Achieved After Victory Against Louisville

Numerous milestones marked the Cardinals’ defeat. Logan Lednicky extended her streak of double-digit kills to 20, adding another highlight to her standout season. Meanwhile, after earning SEC All-Tournament honors in November, Ifenna Cos-Okpalla shattered the program record for blocks in a five-set postseason battle.

Additionally, the Aggies advanced to their third Elite Eight in program history, and after recording their 26th win of the season, this marked their most in a year since 2001 (26-6).
