Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone recently opened up about keeping her pregnancy a secret from her own husband, Andre Levrone. The reigning world champion sprinter announced the good news on social media a couple of weeks ago.
McLaughlin-Levrone is the world record holder in the 400m hurdles event. Last year, she transitioned completely to the women’s 400m dash, missing the world record mark by a whisker at the Tokyo World Championships.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Opens Up on Keeping Her Pregnancy a Secret From Husband Andre Levrone
The world champion sprinter had recently attended a podcast session on ‘Well Played’ by the Skimm channel. McLaughlin-Levrone revealed that she knew about her pregnancy well before she revealed it later to her husband and how she kept it secret for a week.
“And, I found out, like, I knew for, like, a week, before he found out. Okay. Yep. Afterwards, he was like, ‘You knew for a week? Well, how did you put that in? My goodness, you alive?’ I was. Every day, yeah. I just wanted to blurt it out, but I wanted to do something special,” McLaughlin-Levrone stated in the podcast.
McLaughlin-Levrone had posted about her pregnancy on Jan. 22. The sprinter posted a couple of snaps with her husband, Andre, as she wrote,
“Made a human with my favorite human 🥹 Oh, how we have prayed for you… and the Lord has answered!! You are our greatest blessing and are already so loved. We are eagerly waiting to meet you! 🫶🏽🤍 Cool parents loading…”
While McLaughlin-Levrone will have to miss out on the current track and field season, she is the least worried. The athlete is in her top form and won multiple laurels last year, including the US Championships. McLaughlin-Levrone also tried her hand at the 100m hurdles in the Grand Slam Track league, although she wasn’t as successful as in the 400m event and the 400m hurdle events.
McLaughlin-Levrone won two gold medals in her last appearance at the Tokyo World Championships. She contributed to the gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay event. However, the gold medal in the 400m dash was even more special. Stunning everyone with her brilliant run, McLaughlin-Levrone created a new championship record of 47.78 seconds to clinch the gold medal.
This was just 0.18 seconds short of the four-decade-old world record, set by East German athlete Marita Koch in 1985. Reigning Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic won the silver medal, while Asian champion Salwa Eid Naser from Bahrain clinched the bronze medal.
