As Benson Kipruto and Hellen Obiri clinched the men’s and women’s titles at the New York City Marathon on November 2, a World Champion observed them from the sidelines; it was none other than the dynamic Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. The 400m world champion was part of a noble initiative of New Balance at this World Major Marathon amid her offseason from the track.
What Did Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Share About Her Time at the New York City Marathon 2025?
On Sunday, McLaughlin-Levrone was part of a collaboration between New Balance and the New York Road Runners that donated shoes to underprivileged communities around New York City to celebrate the partnership, which marked its 10th anniversary in 2025. This initiative’s announcement was initially attended by 400 students on Sunday, representing a significant step towards inspiring children to participate in athletics.
Reflecting on her time in New York, where she was part of the inspiring initiative and the marathon, McLaughlin-Levrone shared a few glimpses from this tour on her Instagram. Her caption read, “New York, I ❤️ U What a wonderful week full of laughs, incredible people, and inspiring moments! Thank you @newbalance for having me be a part of this years @nycmarathon !! It was such a blast. 🤗Until next time 🫶🏽”
Notably, the 400m world champion has been associated with New Balance since 2018 and has spent her entire pro career to date with the Boston-based brand. McLaughlin-Levrone also has her personal collection featuring shoes and other sports apparel in the brand.
McLaughlin-Levrone Stressed the Needs of Track and Field in the Ongoing Period
The sport of Track and Field has progressed immensely in recent years, especially with the onset of new leagues such as Grand Slam Track and Athlos. These leagues have prompted foundations such as World Athletics and the Diamond League to increase the financial flow in the sport.
McLaughlin-Levrone recently shared a detailed view of the objectives that the authorities should work on for the sport’s development. The American athlete said, “Track and field has stars and huge personalities; what we need is infrastructure — a true pro league, consistent TV deals, and clearer lanes between pro and amateur so the stars can actually be stars.”
The 400m world champion further expressed her excitement for the home Olympics in 2028. “Women’s sports are having a moment (I’m a big tennis fan — Coco, I need a lesson!), and I want track to meet that energy. Looking toward L.A. 2028, I’m excited, ” she said.
Even though the 2028 LA Olympics are far away for now, McLaughlin-Levrone’s form on the track has been evergreen. The 26-year-old got her hands on her first 400m world title earlier in the season, marking her dominance in another discipline outside 400m hurdles.
