Sturla Holm Lægreid recently made Norway proud by winning a bronze medal in the biathlon event at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. However, it was his live TV confession that gained more attention than his comeback to the Olympic podium.
Lægreid had previously won a gold medal in the men’s 4×7.5km relay event at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The Norwegian biathlete is also the reigning world champion in the same event.
All About Sturla Holm Lægreid’s Live TV Confession
Lægreid clinched the bronze medal in the men’s biathlon event at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. The 28-year-old athlete turned emotional during his post-race interview and confessed that he had cheated on his girlfriend. In Lægreid’s words,
“There is something I want to share with someone who may not be watching today. Half a year ago I met the love of my life. The world’s most beautiful and nicest person. Three months ago I made the mistake of my life and cheated on her, and I told her about that a week ago. This has been the worst week of my life.”
Lægreid further added that this was not something to be proud of and hoped for forgiveness. The Norwegian athlete stated, “I had the gold medal in life, and I am sure there are many people who will see things differently, but I only have eyes for her. Sport has come second these last few days. Yes, I wish I could share this with her.”
When asked about how he managed to secure the podium finish, the Norwegian athlete added, Asked by the interviewer how he managed to finish third, Lægreid replied,
“I try to be a good role model and I did something stupid. I got a nice video from the club at home and I used that as motivation today. As I said I want to be a good role model but I have to admit when I get something wrong. You have to admit when you do something you can’t stand for and hurt someone you love so much.”
Lægreid first gained limelight for his performance at the 2018 Biathlon Junior World Championships held in Otepää, Estonia, where he won two silver medals (15 km individual and 4 × 7.5 km relay).
Lægreid rose through the ranks to win a staggering 14 medals at the senior World Championships, including four gold medals at the 2021 World Championships held in Pokljuka, Slovenia. He will be seen next in the team relay event on February 17.
