Nebraska Volleyball’s Ryan Hunter Sends a Clear Message After Redshirt Season

Ryan Hunter signals a return to Nebraska Volleyball for next season following a redshirt year after the team’s NCAA Regional Final exit.

Nebraska Volleyball’s season may have ended in the NCAA Regional Final, bringing an end to its unbroken run, but the program has yet to see any players enter the transfer portal. Following return announcements from Teraya Sigler and Keri Leimbach, Ryan Hunter has become the latest athlete to confirm her comeback for next season after completing a redshirt year.

Ryan Hunter Signals Return to Nebraska Volleyball for Next Season

Hunter’s on-court impact during the spring offered a glimpse of what lies ahead. One of her standout performances came in a spring exhibition match against Kansas, where she impressed with 11 kills on a .563 hitting percentage, while also contributing two blocks and two digs in an efficient all-around showing.

Amid a wave of athletes entering the transfer portal, Hunter signaled continuity with Nebraska by sharing a forward-looking message on Instagram. The post featured highlights from her redshirt season alongside moments with teammates.

She wrote, “Redshirt szn âś… see ya next year @huskervb ❤️ #GBR”, a post which received reactions from her teammates including Sigler, Leimbach, Skyler Pierce and Kenna Cogill among others.

While Hunter and other teammates look ahead, Nebraska also prepares for change. The program said goodbye to four Huskers ahead of the 2025 season: Rebekah Allick, Taylor Landfair, Allie Sczech, and Maisie Boesiger.

The transition follows a strong regular-season campaign that concluded with a narrow 3-2 loss to Texas A&M in the NCAA Regional. The Aggies went on to capture the NCAA title with a sweep victory over Kentucky.

Hunter on Why Nebraska Felt Like the Right Fit

During a previous interview with 1890 Nebraska, Hunter reflected on what first drew her to the Cornhuskers. For Hunter, the decision wasn’t tied to a single moment but about the bigger picture and the long-term possibilities she saw within the program.

Asked what made Nebraska feel like the right fit, the Cox Mill High School graduate first pointed to the opportunities the program provides, stating, “Kind of just like the program in general and the opportunities that the program has. Because my goal ultimately was to, like, play professionally or play in the Olympics and I felt that Nebraska had the program for that and had the opportunities for me to do that.”

Beyond development and exposure, Hunter also emphasized the environment surrounding Nebraska Volleyball as something that she felt instantly connected to. She admitted the fan base played a major role in shaping that comfort level, adding, “I also really liked the fan base. It felt very comforting and homey that like Nebraska was all about volleyball.”

With her returning to the program next year, Hunter will look to build on her time with Nebraska as she enters the next phase of her college career.
