How Did Regan Smith and Kate Douglass React to Relationship Rumors?
Ahead of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup this year, Smith and Douglass discussed the rumors circulating on social media that they were dating. In an interview with Katie Hoff on the Unfiltered Waters podcast, they said:
“I feel like people really joke about us dating, you know, as a couple. Have you seen that? People think we’re hiding our relationship…in love. So that’s pretty entertaining. Sometimes I would post pictures of me and Jared, and then I get responses from crazy people on Instagram. They’re like ‘this is a betrayal to Regan.’ Or being like, ‘Where is she?’ ‘I hope one day you guys are comfortable enough to be open and honest about it. It’s pretty funny.” – Kate Douglass
Smith and Douglass performed impressively at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup, winning multiple gold medals. Smith tied her own world record in the 100m backstroke, while Douglass set a new world record in the 100m freestyle.
Smith on Taking a Break From Swimming After The Paris Olympics
Smith recently opened up about why she took a break from competitive swimming after the Paris Olympics and how Douglass helped her during this period. In an interview with Olympics.com, she said:
“I had spent five months on the road living out of a suitcase, and I was exhausted. I just wanted to live for myself and do things on my own time and not be bound down to anyone else’s schedule. So I went on vacation with two of my good friends, one of them being Kate Douglass. And took a big break from swimming. I didn’t really touch water for a full month.”
“I wanted to play the long game and set myself up well for this next quad and enjoy the success that I felt in Paris for as long as possible.” – Regan Smith
Smith won three individual silver medals and two relay golds at the Paris Olympics, adding to her impressive resume.
